The hotel is simple but we really liked it. There weren't many guests, and we loved being somewhere less crowded so we could enjoy the private onsen. The bath was great! The breakfast was simple; it could have had more items than just 3 per person, but the croissant was delicious. It was definitely worth it for the value!

There are pros and cons to staying here! Pros: The hotel itself is lovely, with polite staff and a clean, spacious, atmospheric room offering mountain views. The public onsen is included in the price and is quite pleasant, especially if you're lucky enough to have it to yourself, as we did (we went in the morning). The hotel also has vending machines for drinks and snacks, which is very convenient since there are no stores nearby. You can arrange to have your luggage sent to the station so you don't have to carry it yourself, but unfortunately, we missed the 10 AM deadline to book this service. Cons: Unfortunately, these left a strong impression. The hotel is located in a terribly inconvenient and remote area, really out in the sticks and difficult to access. It's far from all the attractions you travel to see – we had to take a boat to get to them – and far from any establishments where you'd want to find food. Not only are these places far away, but they also close early, open late, are overpriced, and the food isn't even tasty. We couldn't call a taxi to the accommodation because you needed to link a local phone number! We initially walked with our suitcases along the road, then took a bus. The buses didn't accept our Hakone pass, a card we specifically bought for Hakone, even though buses were supposed to be included. And the price without the card was clearly inflated – 300 yen to travel uphill for 8 minutes. Since we had another individual onsen booked elsewhere (a 20-minute drive away), after that at 9 PM, we realized the buses had stopped running. There was no chance of calling or hailing a taxi, so we had to walk back to the hotel. This meant a two-hour walk along a dark mountain road, surrounded by forest, with only occasional streetlights. We tried to hitchhike, but no one stopped, not even taxis. After an hour of walking uphill (our emotions were indescribable), about the 10th car, if not more, finally stopped, and a young Japanese couple gave us a ride back to the hotel. Overall, the hotel itself is good (it was also cold at night, we used the air conditioning to warm up, but the room was large and difficult to heat; thankfully, there were extra large blankets). However, everything else regarding the location was terrible. If you plan to stay here, make sure to plan your transportation in advance.

A note on ‘shared bathroom’. It’s really a group bathroom with 6-8 open spots to shower. It’s not an individual bathroom that one person uses and then the next. The shower room is where the hot springs is. So a great view of naked people showering. One shower room for men and another for women. You can decide if this sounds good to you. The hotel description is ‘Japanese’ style and this is part of the style. In general the area around the lake is not meant for overnight stays. All restaurants close by 4:00.   Also no one at front desk 10-2.

I really can't find a reason to recommend this hotel other than for the price. The location is not ideal in bad weather as we could not make it to the hotel due to all transport being closed due to snow. (Bare in mind it was only about 2 inches of snow) The lobby doors are jammed due to being frozen. Which I find strange as we passed through a hotel 2 hotels away just fine. The washing machines closed due to frozen pipes. Surely a hotel of this age this could have been remedied by now. There is no readily available utensils for the food in the vending machines. Considering the rooms have no shower the shower facilities and onsen are closed for a good portion of the day. The coffee machine is open for very little hours. There just seems to be a lot of self imposed restrictions which I find extremely strange. The windows rattled all day and night even after trying to jam them with tissue. The soundproofing is non existent in any direction. And I was also expecting somewhat of a view to which I got none. Was extremely disappointed all in all. Especially considering we spent a night in a hotel not far away and was quite the opposite experience. This hotel seems to kneecap itself in so many ways. One more thing was the zero effort to make any effort in clearing snow at the entrance. Considering we walked through another hotels ground where all the paths had been cleared. This was an ice skating rink from the very entrance to the bottom of the hill. Minimum effort hotel for a minimum price. The only saving grace was the nice young gentleman who is at check in. The older man I imagine would rather you booked a different hotel and left him alone. The hotel is clean though and the shower gels really nice! And the room is a good size.

the hotel doesn’t have an elevator and the staff didn’t even bother to help us with our luggage. we’re two girls and we had 3 big suitcases. luggage storage is 500¥ per piece and we just wanted to leave it for half an hour. breakfast is provided for 500¥ but it’s just coffee and croissant, i could pay more but get some good food because there are no restaurants nearby. the reception closes at 9 or 10 pm, and there were guests who arrived after that time and asked us for help because there was no one at the counter. the onsen looked kinda disappointing. overall, it’s okay if you’re looking for a budget stay for 1 night, but i would not recommend it

We arrived before check in time (4pm) and the gentleman at the front desk was rather unfriendly but we were able to leave our bags. We later checked in and a different front desk gentleman helped us and he was very helpful and friendly. The room was big and comfortable and the onsen was good too. Not many plug points in the room though. Check out is 10:00 and it felt like they were waiting for us to leave. Very nice night, odd but good.
