We asked at check-in if we could pay for an upgrade. Without telling us, they put us in a room on the ground floor right next to the cleaning staff's room, with the public restrooms directly opposite. Starting around 4 or 5 AM, we were constantly woken up by flushing, doors opening and closing, and loud plumbing noises from the cleaning room, happening about every half hour. Every time we'd just managed to fall asleep, we'd be disturbed again. The most outrageous part was that when we checked out, we gave all this feedback to both the front desk and the manager. They apologized, but still charged us the upgrade fee anyway.

I got a free upgrade to a deluxe room, which was elegantly furnished, comfortable, and clean. The front desk lady was very enthusiastic and responsible. The building has a long history and has been successfully renovated into a true five-star hotel. The facilities, cleanliness, environment, and service are all top-notch.
