Zhuanshan International Youth Hostel (Jiaxiu Lou Qingyun Market)

Not recommended. The hostel is not clean. The bathrooms smell of urine. The showers are directly over the squat toilets. The hostel seems to allow smoking in communal areas. Staff are only sporadically available to help. Air conditioning was left off in the rooms overnight, with the windows open allowing mosquitos in. After we queried this the next morning via WeChat (no one was at reception), we were told that you have to request in advance to have air conditioning to be turned on overnight. The beds are extremely hard without proper mattresses - just a thin cover on a hard wooden board. This all led to a very uncomfortable and hot sleep. The issues felt too fundamental to make it worth bringing this up with the staff, so we decided to cut our stay short instead. Initially our request to cancel our second night was rejected and there was no one around in the morning to speak to about it. Eventually we contacted them on WeChat and to their credit they quickly provided a refund for the second night.

Not the best but not the worst, great value overall. Decent facilities and really good location, nice common area. Bedroom and bathroom were both pretty clean. Bed nice and private with plug socket and light. Main complaint is the comfort of the beds.. like sleeping on a rock. Again really good value for the money you pay so would stay again.

Great location access to everything, walking street, shops...

I would definitely not recommend staying in this hostel. Although the staff were nice and the location was great - close to a local lively night market, the state and cleanliness of this hostel was horrid. Absolutely no cleaning occurs at all behind the scenes. The kitchen was in an unsightly state with this massive box of old sheets the whole 4 nights was there. The showers are directly on top of the toilets. No soap, there was hair everywhere , mold and there had been no mopping done in this area for a long time. You can see there are faeces on the toilet stall in this photo 🤮. This place looks in no state compared to the photos online. I wouldn’t even recommend staying here if you wanted an affordable place. Places cheaper than this could have a more comfortable accommodation.
