The Most Creative “Forest View” in Guangzhou I booked a room advertised as a “Deluxe Queen Room with forest view”. In the photos, the room looked bright, calm, with sky, trees and a pleasant atmosphere. Naively, I expected an actual nice view from the window. When I arrived, I discovered the famous forest: old residential buildings, tired façades, barred windows, air conditioners and concrete walls. A beautiful immersion into nature — probably in the “post-apocalyptic urban jungle” category. I reported the issue, and the hotel offered me another room. Result: instead of facing the buildings directly, I could admire another building/wall. Still no forest. Not even a rebellious little bush in the distance. The best part was the hotel’s explanation: they told me they cannot show the real outside view online because it would affect residents’ privacy. So they know the real view cannot be shown, but still use photos that create a much more flattering impression. Convenient. Even better: the famous “forest view” was apparently related to an air purifier / “forest oxygen bar” in the room. So here, “forest view” does not mean what you see through the window, but perhaps what the hotel would like you to imagine while breathing next to a machine. At this point, it is no longer marketing — it is experimental poetry. The room itself was small and basic, with a frankly mediocre bed. At around €80 per night during the Canton Fair, I understand prices go up, but the comfort and the description should still match reality at least a little. The breakfast was very consistent with the rest: bland. Not catastrophic, just the kind of buffet that reminds you that “included” does not mean “good”. You eat because you need to go to the fair, not because you want to come back. In short: non-existent forest view, misleading photos, surreal explanations, average room, soulless breakfast. Only book if you enjoy abstract concepts: the forest without a forest, the view without a view, and breakfast without taste.
