We booked a family holiday to Green Island for 6 nights. A very hit and miss experience, I'm afraid. We're regular campers - so we are very comfortable with slumming it. Green Island Resort however left us a disappointed in a number of respects. It falls far short of the ”luxury resort” advertised. I should also mention that I really don’t like providing this sort of review. But I do think it may assist other families who are looking to spend their dollars at Green Island. First, the good Rooms are large and comfortable (if quite dated, for example the tiny TVs from the 90s; bathrooms need updating). Daily service of the rooms was up to standard. Try to get a room by the pool - they're pleasant. Green Island itself is beautiful. We didn't see any of the issues with rubbish on the beach that some other people have mentioned. Plenty of bird and sea life around. The main beach is good - great sun-loungers right on the edge of tropical blue water, kayaks for hire etc. The forest walk (which has new boardwalks) is really pretty. Daily fish feeding off the wharf with the kids was a treat - saw sharks up close! The condition of the reef around the island is fair (especially given the extent of the snorkeling) - we saw loads of pretty fish and turtles, and spent many happy hours exploring with the kids. The main pool (which is shared with day-trippers) is pretty and well kept. The dive shop crew was very helpful. The glass bottom boat tour was fun - great guide and we saw beautiful coral. The resort staff were (for the most) helpful and friendly. Now for the bad The food and drinks situation has to take top spot. Breakfast is totally lacklustre. ”Hot” food was luke-warm at best. The tepid instant coffee served was an actual running joke amongst the guests. I repeatedly suggested to staff that they put out an urn or a kettle so that the water could at least be served piping hot. I gave up after asking for the 5th time. Barista coffee is available at the bar, but at $6 a pop. When you're staying at a ”luxury resort”, a decent coffee with your ”breakfast included” room rate should be a given. Also the most ridiculous heavy elevator jazz being played at breakfast (which staff did change to something lighter when I pointed this out to them). Other food choices during the day are of the fast and super unhealthy variety only. And not great fast food either: I had both greasy and undercooked. No salads or fresh choices. This is so simple to fix. Offer hotel guests a fridge with pre-prepared salads, wraps and sandwiches - which can be supplied by caterers (or even a supermarket!) on the mainland. If our small neighborhood gym can manage to serve up fresh fare in this way, surely a ”luxury resort” can do the same? Evening meals at the restaurant are limited to 3 pricey choices of mains: one for $29, one for $39 and one for $49. The food was mostly OK. Just very limited choice, and pricey. The restaurant (Emer
