This is a magnificent place, but everything is spoiled by mosquitoes and midges. In four days they were completely eaten by mosquitoes. Well, in addition, I would like to more thoroughly clean the beach from plastic

First & foremost, biggest compliments to the housekeeping team! We arrived in our villa around 2pm, went out around 4, and only returned at night after dinner to find: a mosquito coiled lit outside our door, bed has been made, coffee cups washed, rubbish bin cleared, how thoughtful! The sight of the sea from the resort was superb, enhanced by the good weather. The welcome drink of calamansi juice with plum, aka Kitchai Ping as it’s known locally, was as good as my mom’s. We initially intended to have the weekend hi-tea, but apparently it had to be pre-booked at least a day before. Thanks to that we got to enjoy happy hour instead, before having the weekend BBQ dinner that we managed to book a slot upon arrival. Bartender gave us extra kicks in our cocktails, thank you for taking our relaxation up a notch! However we seemed to be unlucky with food serving. We booked for dinner at 6 but our happy hour session somehow made some miscommunications and delay. Food was good and a plenty, though we did notice satays were missing, but we were well fed. Breakfast order was also somewhat mixed up, kitchen must be overwhelmed with many guests, but we got what we wanted in the end. Overall we are happy with our stay. We didn’t manage to explore the trails, perhaps we may return for a day trip in the future, and have that weekend hi-tea we missed.

The surrounding and service was unparalleled, a short 25 mins boat ride to this gem island is simply the best experience ever.

This place is a perfect getaway for those who need a getaway from the hustle and bustle of their daily life. We had a warm welcome from the staff upon arrival (about 40mins boat ride from main island) and had a buggy send us to the rooms. Room was spacious. Dinner from the main restaurant was great. Staff were extremely friendly. Would recommend snorkelling in the morning from 8am onwards when the tides aren't too low. I was lucky enough to spot a turtle! Beware of crazy sandflies though. We got bitten real bad.

It was an amazing journey and enjoyable stay at the Island.We were pick-up and transferred to Bungaraya Resort at Gaya Island from Jesselton Jetty in a big ferry owned by Bungaraya Resort .. there were only 4 passengers but i felt safe enough in that big ferry .. the sea was quite rough at that time.The service from registration at Bungaraya ferry point to the resort was superb.. they will carry all your suitcase from their office at the Jesselton Jetty until to your room at the Island. Thanks to Rizal and other Managerial staff of Bungaraya Resort our stay was wonderful and the Bungaraya Resort and surrounding was breathtakingly beautiful

Excellence customer service. Comfortable and clean room

Fantastic service from the staff. Love the toiletries and bug repellent spray from the resort's spa, even though we weren't into spa treatments. The restaurant menu is limited, but the food tastes good. There's not much to see if you're into snorkeling, but kayaking and paddle boarding are fun alternatives. The island is easy to reach from Kota Kinabalu city center, but you wouldn't be able to see sunrise or sunset from here. Evening high tide brought some debris to the shore, but the resort would clean them up in the morning. And they have buffaloes to deal with sandflies.

One of the best services I have ever had. The staffs are so kind and nice, respect and helpful.

Good resort, with beach and swimming pool, but the meals are expensive

Everything was indeed superb!! Cozy villa, beautiful infinity pool, good food and wines. Thank you for every staff of Bungaraya. We really enjoyed our vacation.

It’s our second visit. But the beach was not as beautiful as the first time in July, because of the monsoon season. Nice place if you want to be away from city.

This lovely resort exceeded our expectations! It's only 25 min boat ride from KK n yet the turquoise waters look like Maldives. The checkin at Jesselton Pier was a breeze and upon arrival at Gaya Island, we were welcomed by the friendly resort team. We were taken by buggy for resort orientation before bringing to our lovely villa on the hill. I was told there were lots of sand flies, so we steered clear of the beach n went straight to snorkeling off jetty. Love the clear turquoise water but not many fishes or live corals. Its nice that the resort is built around nature and we saw monitor lizards, birds, snake and even white wild pig walking on the beach during our dinner. The resort kindly arranged for our anniversary dinner at the beach pavilion with complimentary cake. The next morning we went for canopy walk before checkout. It was a memorable enjoyable short trip. The only downside was even though we did not walk or spend time on the beach, we ended up with many sand fly bites and had to get doc treatment.
