Furano Hotel Guide

Furano is located in Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan’s northernmost island. It is about an hour away by bus from Asahikawa Airport (AKJ), which can be reached from major cities such Tokyo, Nagoya, and Taipei. Furano is known throughout the country as a winter paradise, and as a result, tourism has boomed in the city in recent years.

Within Furano, many visitors choose to head to the Kitanomine Area, which is the location of ski resorts and shopping areas.

Furano is also known for its rural landscapes, and when there isn’t snow on the ground, visitors flock to the nearby lavender fields. The flowers burst into bloom in the summer months from June through the beginning of August. Visitors interested in checking out the seas of flowers can head to Farm Tomita or Lavender East. Both parks sell a range of lavender goods and are a great place to escape from the summer heat. The city is also home to the Furano Winery and Furano Cheese Factory.

In the winter, Furano Ski Resort opens and is the perfect place for a ski vacation. The area experiences heavy snowfall and is often knee or waist-deep. The resort has all types of slopes, so whether you’re a beginner or seasoned skier, there’s something for everyone. Family Snowland is also a part of the resort and provides activities such as dog sledding and snowmobiling, ensuring fun for the whole family.

Furano is a great base from which to visit nearby cities from. Asahikawa, the second largest city in Hokkaido, can be reached by rail. In addition, Biei, a small town famous for its gorgeous natural scenery, is also part of the Furano Line. Visitors to Biei may be interested in the Kanno Farm or Patchwork Road.
