Inverlochy Castle Hotel

Inverlochy Castle Hotel

Fort William|4.15km from downtown
Prices start at £4 or £5 per night... This is an old castle hotel on the west side of the Scottish Highlands. From a common area point of view everything is well done and impeccable. But from the point of view of the rooms...the price/performance ratio is obviously super low. The facilities are outdated, so I asked for a humidifier... A hair dryer that was produced 20 years ago came, which was completely unacceptable and had no humidifying effect at all. The shower room has very strict requirements on the size of the guests, and I personally feel that the water pressure can be further improved and improved. The laudable point is that the shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and soap in the bathroom...all have two ball royal certifications, and the quality is also carried. The cold and hot water device of the washbasin is a traditional separate type, which is the kind of water that you either use cold water or hot water, and it cannot be warm water anyway. The sofa in the guest room is made of fabric. The disadvantage is that you can't see whether it has lice or whether it is clean. Anyway, it is so old that people don't want to sit on it at all. The carpet is lint-free, which means it's ”aged”. Well, let's talk about the public area: the restaurant's production is still quite standard, with Michelin standards, whether it's dinner or breakfast... It's pretty good, but the quality of the coffee is not good. The service staff are warm, courteous, serious and smiling. There are several casual living rooms and even dining rooms in the indoor public area, all of which are luxurious, comfortable, freehand, and comfortable, and there is nothing to fault. There are a large number of areas in the outdoor woods and paths that need to be improved, such as greening projects. One last thing to add: parking is free. After all, the owner, Mr. Chai, is a Chinese from Southeast Asia. The land of the ancient castle covers an area of 5,000 acres... If parking charges are required... it would be too stingy. In general...you can say that it is an ancient European style, but I personally think that the ancient European style does not necessarily need to update or refresh the facilities and furniture. Especially with such a large area, if the greening is not done well... it really responds to the old saying ”gold and jade are outside, and there is nothing in it”.

Fort William|2.87km from downtown
We stayed here for one night as part of our Scottish road trip for my wife's birthday and what a great place this is. On arrival we were greeted by the friendly hosts who were so helpful and had loads of great local knowledge. Also great to note all Covid precautions were being followed straight from the off in terms of masks/distancing. We were in the Great Glen suite and what an excellent room this is. Large, modern and very well appointed, it has all the facilities you need as well as personal touches like chocolates by the bedside and a Birthday gift for my wife! Always a really nice touch. The high point of the room is the spacious balcony complete with chairs and table where you can sit out and take in the spectacular views of the mountains. We were lucky to enjoy some mild weather so took full advantage of this. Breakfast the next morning was included. This was a continental option including loads of tasty local produce including eggs laid by their own hens and some delicious ham and cheese. Top marks on an excellent breakfast it really set us up well for the day ahead! JJ the host took time to chat to us over breakfast and we were surprised to hear the business is ten years old (I think?) as everything looks absolutely brand new and like it just opened yesterday. Put all of this together with the bargain price we enjoyed for a mid-week stay and I really can't recommend this place enough. If you're thinking of staying get it booked now, and thanks again to the hosts for providing such a great experience for my Wife's birthday trip!

Breakfast

Westcourt Bed & Breakfast
4.5/526 Reviews

Westcourt Bed & Breakfast

Fort William|1.4km from downtown
An absolute nightmare. We stayed in Fort William at Westcourt B&B for four nights. On day one we had the honeymoon suite, with jacuzzi. We wanted to enjoy the bath, but while we were in there, Charles knocked on our door several times (even though you can clearly hear that the jacuzzi is in use from the corridor, as we'd been told not to use it after 22pm). Eventually it turned out he wanted to introduce himself and try to sell us the room for more nights (because we had a cheaper room for the following days). Guest privacy was definitely not a thing. Since we had been hiking and camping for a week beforehand, in the rain, all our stuff was wet. When we asked if they had laundry facilities they referred us to laundromats for which we'd have to take a taxi to reach. We just wanted to dry things, so we spread our stuff over the room. When we came back in the evening, Charles met us in the hallway, as if he was waiting for us (which he did several times in a way which at least I found very creepy), to tell us that this was ”unacceptable” and we ”should be thrown out”. When we discussed a bit and said that we did not cause any damage to the room whatsoever, the stuff is just wet, not dirty, nor did we bother any other guests in the slightest, he went to make a completely inappropriate remark about our lifestyles saying ”I don't understand how you can live like this”, and that they couldn't perform any room service like this (although they had taken down all the things that were drying). When we tried to say that we don't need our room cleaned while we stay there, they said that it wasn't an option, it's included in the service, so asking for privacy is again not ok. The next day, when there had been room service, returned to our room to find our personal stuff that we like to keep on the nightstand, was moved into cupboards in the bathroom, so we had to look through the whole place to find them. If this all doesn't sound bad enough yet, we had a bit of drama also regarding payment, where Charles got agitated saying that there's no point to a bank card if you can't use it. This is because he already had my husband's card details (through ***********) and tried to just take money for the extra night in the honeymoon suite (this night was agreed on later, so not through ***********). Luckily my husband's bank has a safety mechanism which requires him to give the pincode if there's a new payment, but Charles could not offer a method for us to use the pincode, nor could he send a safe payment link. Eventually cash (without receipt) was the only option, because he also wasn't able to give his own IBAN number. So all in all, we felt extremely uncomfortable during our stay at Westcourt, and spent as little time in the B&B as possible, trying to avoid the hosts every time we went in and out. The breakfast was also not worth it at all, and not fresh (the same things lay there day after day), and also served only between 7:30 and 8:45, which can be extreme

Nevis Bank Inn
4.2/5101 Reviews
We had a friendly welcome in reception and found our rooms spotless, very well equipped and pleasant. They were not particularly big, but were singles and had all that was needed, The (double) beds in particular were very comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant which was very good and provided an excellent choice. Staff in all areas were friendly and helpful. For anyone with mobility issues, there is no lift but I believe help was available with luggage if requested. The rooms had walk-in showers.

Really great Hotel. Cheapest around as well so don’t really get when people book cheap hotels and complain that it’s not 5* 😂. Location is amazing. The Loch is beautiful. Staff are really nice. Rooms have everything you need and are quite spacious. Food is really good although a wee bit expensive but still good sized portions.
Ben Nevis Hotel & Leisure Club

Parking is convenient and free, suitable for self-driving tour. Breakfast is OK, it is a traditional English breakfast. The room is not old, but it is still clean. It is still acceptable for one night, and there is a big supermarket next to it. Cost-effective

Stayed at this hotel when we had a trip to Scotland,Our train was cancelled and i was worried we would miss the reception which closed at 11 o clock at night.I rang the hotel in a panic but was reassured if i was late it would be fine, luckily we got there before 11 and were even able to get a drink even though the bar was about to close.Breakfast the next morning was lovely and there was plenty of choice.bedroom was a good size and had a spectacular view of the lake.Would highly recommend this hotel and its location to the railway station.
