Staff were very friendly and accommodating, headed by the amazing Ravi. Location was idyllic. Food was lovely. We enjoyed it so much that we hope to go back again next year. If you can order another serving of sunshine, Ravi, that would be perfect.

Haven't been to the Moorings bistro in a while and didn't realise it was under new ownership. It was always a pleasure to go in for the delicious home baking & a coffee & to enjoy the cheery bustling environment. What a disappointment on our visit last Saturday....the place was deserted, no lovely home baking on show, in fact very little other than scones & boring 'bought in' traybakes. We stood around for about 10 minutes but no staff appeared to serve us so we left. Not the lovely busy cheery place it used to be. Very disappointing.

Will not be stopping again. Booked a three night stay for business and needed to cancel the last night advised on the Monday and on checkout on the Thursday morning still charged for the last night. Downright dishonest won’t be staying again.

Just returned after our 3 night stay for new year. Wish I had got all the staff names as they really tried with the small amount of people that were there to make it a great night. The food was lovely each night especially new years eve . The new owners since we last went 4 years ago are really trying to get things back on track, after COVID and reopening late in the year there was no live entertainment as all were booked up,but the disco was good and the Scottish people there made us (Yorkshire people) very welcome. Our room 22 was a superior room newly carpeted ,great walk in shower constant hot water . Massive bed and toasty warm temperature in the room. The 3 managers definitely are working hard in welcoming guests and being friendly I do hope next new year gets the custom it deserves. It's in a lovely quiet location ,no traffic noise and nice walks out of the door. Ben Nevis cable car was our way of blowing away the cobwebs on new years day ,loved it . Thankyou ,all staff at the moorings. Lynn and Andy.

We booked in for 8 people for a Christmas Part Night, outwith the Hotel's control noone else booked in so it was cancelled but we still went for a Christmas dinner and had an overnight stay. The check in/welcome we got was the best we have had, thank you so much. I was welcomed by name and shown our room, then offered an upgrade! Nothing was too much trouble and the rooms were absolutely lovely. After a long drive and all the stress associated with arranging a family get together this was a welcome treat. We loved staying here and would definitely come back, the location is lovely and we had a nice walk along the canal. The only (slight) negative was that it was really obvious we were the only ones in and the kitchen was struggling, which was a shame. We had our table booked for 7pm and at 8.10pm the very nice waiter was asking us to please get all our orders in for pudding as the kitchen were waiting to close, some of use weren't finished our main courses. We did feel a bit rushed and the food, which vast in quantity, was a little bit lacking - the veg were over cooked, spouts burned and the sticky toffee puddings were served cold. We did get a an email beforehand asking us to pre-order and this perhaps explains why but I wish the hotel had said the kitchen would be looking to shut at 8pm!! We ordered 3 Baileys after dinner and the bar struggled to give us 3 as they were running out. We got 3 teenyweeny measures... Everyone had a lovely time though.

We booked The Moorings hotel for its views of Ben Nevis and canal side location, both of which were indeed there. From the advert the hotel also looked to be of modern construction; although on our arrival that only applied to the modern extension that is occupied by the restaurant on the ground floor and rooms above. The Moorings claims 4 AA stars, and we booked thinking the AA was a brand we could trust. At £145 for the night The Moorings is some distance from high end boutique level, but we were expecting a degree of comfort for our money. Having spent a happy fortnight sleeping in hotels and B&Bs throughout Scotland I can clearly state the bed at The Moorings was the least comfortable of the entire trip. Behind the modern extension the hotel is probably best described as “tired”. The curtain in the bedroom was hanging off the rail and there was a noisy, apparently constant, fan in the bathroom. At risk of appearing eccentric, I also appreciate a hotel where the shower actually works without my having to stand next to the bath and hold the switch in the on position while my wife showers. Arriving in the restaurant in the morning I was informed by the front of house staff that breakfast was not included in the room rate and would be another fifteen pounds each. Until it arrived this seemed reasonable: burned croissants and a charred, dried up full breakfast however finished me off as far as The Moorings goes; and it seemed important to warn others this establishment really isn’t somewhere to consider staying. The Moorings only saving grace is its staff, who were charming and clearly doing their best in what can only be considered difficult circumstances. I would advise them to leave as soon as possible for a better run hotel, which in the current staffing crisis would no doubt welcome such hard working, pleasant, people with open arms. Having looked now on The AA web site I can find no listing for The Moorings, despite the branded AA **** sign at the hotel entrance.

My usual abode in Fort William is the Premier Inn, but it was unavailable so my work booked me in to The Moorings. I’d never stayed here before so didn’t know what to expect. Let me save you all a bit of time; it was fabulous. It was warm. It was extremely friendly. And the food? It was to die for. Let me just say that the staff were exceptional. Very attentive. Very genuine. Very, very friendly. My room was ideal; a great big comfy bed. A brilliant heater. Piping hot water. A lovely big TV. Plenty of sockets with USB. And for those that are particular, my room was made-up every single day for me coming back from work. But for me the hotel excelled with their menu. I stayed for 4 nights and had something different each night. Each meal seemed to surpass the last. And the portions are extremely generous - absolutely no scrimping - and the prices are very, very reasonable for what you’re getting. My only regret is that I didn’t stay here during one of my earlier visits up here. And part of that is because of what’s right on their doorstep - the magnificent Neptunes Staircase. I got to see it infrequently in the daylight because of the dark mornings/evenings - I can only imagine the view at breakfast and dinner when it’s the summertime. It must be glorious. I can definitely recommend this fabulous hotel. And if it means anything at all, my new go to hotel when I’m back working in the area won’t be the Premier Inn, it’ll be The Moorings. I’d urge others to do the same.

First time visit to this place, just randomly selected. So happy that had a wonderful time with my family at the bistro. Delicious food with lovely staff and prompt service. Will definitely visit again.

I took a group of friends to Scotland on a classic car tour in September. We based ourselves at The Moorings which is conveniently located just outside Fort William and (generally) avoids the daily traffic jam into town. There is ample car parking and room for car trailers for those who prefer not to subject their classics to Motorway abuse. 99 Octane fuel is also available and nearby Shell and Esso garages. The hotel sits alongside Neptunes Staircase on the Caledonian Canal and has a terrace with outside seating and views over to Ben Nevis for when the weather is fine. We chose one of the premium rooms which was newly fitted out, very comfortable and had an excellent bathroom with proper shower. Tea/coffee facilities were included. We dined in both the bistro and function rooms and all guests commented on the good quality of the food throughout the week - although in some cases we felt the portions too generous (not a criticism for some!). Particular highlights were the exceptional beetroot cured salmon, home made curry (the chefs are Indian and make their own delicious spice mix - and it shows!) and steak. Staff were helpful and polite and received praise from our guests and overall we felt the hotel had made a real effort to make us all welcome and ensure we had a memorable week in the Highlands.
