Holiday Inn Florence, an IHG Hotel

I woke up refreshed ready to kill the day after getting such a good night's sleep. The beds are amazing here! The rooms are clean. No traffic noice. But . . . I went downstairs to have breakfast only to find out there wasn't one. Yep. No food for you unless you pay. I entered the room where the food was and the lady said, ”8 dollars a person.” I asked to look at the food and it did look good, but it didn't look that good. I mean how good can hotel gravy be? The Bob Evans is just across the way. Needless to say, I passed and finally found the free coffee that they allow the passengers in steerage to have. Anyway, this is a lovely hotel and we'll probably stay here again because of the beds, but it's ridiculous to charge for breakfast. Just saying. Be the better hotel. Be the superior hotel chain. Heck, be kind. Nothing more to add. Well, one more thing. Cleaning staff needs to shut up in the halls outside guest rooms.

Our family has outgrown standard hotel rooms and to get a suite at any other hotel would cost an arm and a leg, so we were pleasantly surprised to find that this hotel hit our price range AND could accommodate our large family. The rooms were clean, large, and well maintained and the beds were pretty comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows. We were able to comfortably fit our family of 6 (which included one teen, 2 kids, and one infant in a pack-n-play) in our room. There was no tub, just a large shower which was nice and all sorts of kitchen utensils in the kitchen so you had everything you needed to eat in instead of eating out. The clientele seemed to range from business people and utility/construction workers, to large families and those just passing through. Everyone was considerate and the hotel seemed well suited to accommodate everyone and their lodging needs. The facilities were clean and well maintained—the elevators were quick, pool was clean (though a little on the small side) and the work out room was nice as well. They were back to serving regular breakfast in the dining area which was a nice surprise as they had a lot of great options aside from the typical waffles (breakfast sandwiches/yogurt/etc). Everything was clean in the public spaces as well, with plenty of seating and charging spaces in the lobby to play cards or do some work. The location was about 30 mins from the Ark and just over the bridge from Cincinnati. It is minutes from numerous restaurants and fast food joints, shopping venues, and grocery stores. Overall, great experience—especially for the room price point!!! Would stay again in a heartbeat!!

We were very pleased with our stay. The hotel was clean and kept clean continuously despite the snow and slush everywhere! The breakfast was good even though there wasn't much for gluten free diet needs. The water bottle filler was a pleasant surprise, too! The room was clean and spacious and the hotel toiletries were actually really nice! We loved the “ come hang out” feel of the Lobby with the couches, games, tv, pool table, and the little privacy nooks! The staff was very friendly and helpful and overall it was one of the nicest places we’ve ever stayed!

Nice and helpful staff. Shuttle service is good. The room contains everything you need. Happy with my stay. Had a great stay there. Location is a bit far from the airport - but what to complain when there is free shuttle? You cannot beat its price, especially when free breakfast is included.

The only good thing about staying in this motel was finding out that everything else was booked due to a concert in Cincinnati. Thankfully, we had a room reserved, though they made me jump through hoops to pay for it. Our room was filthy: the floor left our socks black, the armchair was in dire need of cleaning, there was trash under the chair, the bathroom floor was yucky, there was scum around the sink (which lacked a plug), and there was scum in the bathtub. The bathroom floor had been ”repaired at”; that is, some tiles had been replaced with mis-matched tiles, they hadn't been properly worked around the toilet, and toilet bolts were sticking up, a clear safety hazard. The shower curtain rod was improperly installed, causing the curtain to slide toward the middle; this, in turn, caused water to spray all over the toilet and bathroom floor. The bathroom door scraped on the floor due to the poor floor repair, and the bathroom amenities were paltry. The laminate flooring in the main room was bouncy, possibly installed directly over a carpet; the desk chair fell over when my husband sat in it (thankfully he was not hurt, but when he took it to the lobby, their response was lukewarm and they did not offer to replace it). The desk was just a small patio table, the fridge tiny, and nothing but a small rack to serve as a closet. NO COFFEE MAKER! Considering they didn't offer anything in the lobby (which isn't very welcoming), the least they could do is put a small coffee maker in the room! And the a/c unit was crappy: to get it to work, we had to keep turning it off and then on again. Outside the room: the place is in serious need of maintenance all over, with tripping hazards on the stairs, stucco on the overhead beam cracking, split fascia boards, and water-damaged soffits (we're retired contractors, so we notice these things). The vending machine had nothing, the ice machine on the first floor was out of order (and appeared to have been that way for some time), the hot tub was covered over such that no way could it be used, and the indoor pool was COLD. We were thankful to have a place to stay for the one night we needed it, but we could not get out of there soon enough in the morning. This wasn't our worst motel/hotel experience.... but it was mighty close
