Sunninghill Hotel

3 night stay. EVERY staff member was friendly and made every effort they could to help or make our stay better. Upon arrival we started to head to our room and it seemed like the carpets were a bit dated/old and the stairs were showing signs of wear. I was a little concerned we'd find a tired/worn down room. Turns out the bath had been very recently updated, and the room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. Appears they've been spending money in the RIGHT places! In-house restaurant for two dinners and very good food (at reasonable prices) and the small in--house bar was impressively stocked. Alistair at the bar was ESPECIALLY good as he helped make one night during our visit for myself and son exceptionally memorable. Note for travelers: they were able to send laundry out ”by the bag” at a very reasonable rate. That made our travels easier.

Booked a room on short notice at 10 pm following being let down by another accommodation. Staff were very helpful . Had a minor issue with room and was given an upgrade and every assistance with move. When we arrived back in the evening there was complimentary Champaign. Breakfast was fantastic. Overall very impressed with standards and staff, a great example on how to help customers.
The Pines Guest House

The moment we walked inside the Pines we knew “Everything is Good here: Everything is Right.” We spent a week there, enjoying Elgin, nearby Scottish sights, and the hospitality of the owners. The Pines had been recently acquired and renovated by the owners. It is immaculately clean and well-appointed. Guests may choose among many breakfast options. They are all excellent. The portions are generous; on our first morning there I apologized to the owners for over-ordering and eating only about half the plate. We used the Pines as a central location for day trips and touring. It was in a good location for this. If you want to go to John ‘O’Groats, Stromness, and the ****************, be prepared for a bit of a drive and perhaps an overnight stay, so we kept our travels a bit closer to Elgin. What can I say about the owners? In a word, “great.” They were the perfect hosts: friendly but not familiar. We enjoy watching Formula 1 racing. On the day of a Grand Prix, they set up a telly in the sitting room for us and ensured we had tea and snacks. It was perfect. Would we go back to the Pines? Absolutely! We consider it our home in northeast Scotland.

We didnt stay, used restaurant only - was superb. Staff welcoming, food excellent. Had a 3 course meal 26th Aug for our daughters birthday. Asked on arrival privately, if my daughter was able for pudding could they throw a candle on top or something. The lovely waitress said she would see what they could do. Not only did the cheesecake come with 3 candles and singing, they went out and got candles especially when the pudding order went in! How many places would do that? Staff were so friendly and welcoming. Food amazing. All 3 courses and the red wine were perfect. We couldn't find a single fault. The mango cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding was beautiful. Cheesecake soooo light. Portion sizes generous and prices fair. Regret not taking food photos but couldn't wait to try it all! We will definitely be back the next time we are in Elgin. Plenty of parking at hotel or across the road. I have no idea why this restaurant wasn't full tonight. It deserved to be!

Stayed here last Friday, house looked lovely on arriving at the property, on entering the reception hall is lovely first thing I noticed was a sign saying restaurant closed. Reception was a wee space in the corridor, the man on reception was pleasant but stank of cigarette smoke 🤮( he was smoking outside on arrival) we were allocated our room on checking it out it was very dark as only a small window so I asked for a better room which I got no bother. Room was cosy and clean, the only issue I had was getting in and out of the bath to use the shower I'm 5'1 and the bath is very high and deep and had a tiled casing which made it even deeper to get into and no bath mat making it tricky to get out when wet even though it's modern and looked like it's been upgraded it's not safe in my opinion. No evening meals are being served, menu is still on website. Breakfast was very nice no complaints there. I would definitely use it again as its conveniently located and plentiful safe parking and some lovely seating areas.
