Cabanas Alechen

An amazing way to be introduced to Patagonia! We stayed at Cabanas Alechen our first nights, and we were thrilled at the beautiful flowers, cozy wooden cabin, and homemade breads and fresh juice for breakfast! What amazing hosts. Staying at the cabin made a fantastic start to our Patagonian adventure - highly recommended!

It was wonderful. The two hosts are super helpful, courteous, open and always available if you have a question or need help. The breakfast was very tasty and there was a different surprise every day. There was nothing wrong with the accommodation, the cottage was perfectly furnished and we wanted for nothing. It was a great stay and we would come back any time and recommend it to others. We had a great stay at Alejandro and Eduardo’s cabin. They provided cute touches including a flag outside our cabin from our country, excellent breakfast and even a car ride to the bus station for our bus to El Chalten. They gave great restaurant recommendations and the Cabin is only a short walk into town. Would highly recommend a stay at Cabañas Alechen!

The property is unique and not a stale, sterile hotel room. Everything was perfectly suited for my stay and the hosts were wonderful! It is a little bit off the beaten path but everything is within walking distance and the major tour companies are familiar with the property for easy pickup and dropoff. I'd definitely stay again!

Alejandro and Eduardo are the sweetest hosts and the best of Argentinian hospitality. They were incredibly helpful and accommodating, genuinely interested in fellow travelers and just all around lovely.3 Regrettably, we only spent one night in El Calafate, but we were so thankful we found and stayed at Cabanas Alechen. The cabins are clean, spacious, well appointed with everything you could need and they are not far from the town (maybe a 15 min walk). Highly recommend staying here. Thank you, Alejandro & Eduardo for making our short stay in El Calafate so warm and memorable!

We felt the most welcome we have in all our travels through Argentina. I wish we would have stayed longer. We were comfortable and the cabin was so charming. The fresh baked bread and breakfast spread were so welcome. Our hosts were excellent in all aspects. When we return to El Calafate, we will stay at Cabañas Alechen.

This is an excellent place to stay in Calafate. The cabanas overlook lake Argentina and the Southern Andes and are just outside the main town so nice and quiet but only a 20 minute walk to the centre. If you don’t fancy the walk then taxis are only 2 dollars and easy to get. Our cabana was warm and secure largely wood built and beautifully appointed. It is in the ‘duplex’ style with the lounge, kitchen and bathroom downstairs and the bedroom upstairs. The hosts, Alejandro and Eduardo were terrific. They were friendly, helpful and easy to communicate with and gave us plenty of local information both before and during our visit helping us arrange trips and visits and giving us what turned out to be great advice on eating and drinking and also gave us the best ‘blue’ exchange rate we had during our entire holiday in Argentina. Breakfast was very nice and included bread and cakes and preserves made by the hosts. I would absolutely recommend this accommodation and would not hesitate to return. Thanks Guys. From the moment we arrived until we left, Alejandro and Eduardo provided us with everything we needed and more. They bring breakfast in the morning (a variety and more than we could eat), and, if you are like us and pack in a hurry, they will make sure you have things like sunblock to get through the day. The place has everything you need: a nice kitchen and living area; a small bedroom up a set of stairs, which present the greatest risk (especially going to bathroom at night). We stayed in the bungalow, so I can't speak to the other side of cabaña. It is a charming cabin set on the edge of a hill overlooking Lake Argentina, the country's largest lake. You can sit and drink coffee and watch the waves ferociously cut to the east below. The wind whips across the lake and hums through the night, but the well-built cabaña takes it in stride. And if you get cold, you can turn up the heat, but more often than not, we had to turn it down. The center of town is about a 20 to 25-minute walk, which is fine since you should be walking off the huge Argentine, late-night dinners of rib-eye steak or lamb (the area specialty). Of course, Alejandro and Eduardo, turned us on to a local place (Don Pinchón), which comes and picks you up and drops after dinner, so you can even cut the walk out of the equation, if you want. In all, a fantastic stay.
