The hotel is in a great location, very upmarket part of Edinburgh. The staff Matthew and Andrew were so helpful and friendly. We were only there to lay our heads as we had an action packed weekend. The hotel did the job for sleep and showering. It is incredibly dated though, it was clean but I imagine it's hard to get it looking clean due to the age and state of the building. Perfect for what we needed and the staff were so lovely we didn't complain about stuff they couldn't fix.

We began our British holiday by visiting Edinburgh by staying at the Thistle Edinburgh. It is well located for some sites. The staff was courteous and helpful. The hotel is converted from an old townhouse. We were on the third floor with no elevator. The room was small and the window open for ventilation. There is a television, but we did not try it. The third in our party ran out of hot water during the shower. We left hoping not all the hotels on our trip will be like this.

Great location, super clean and the staff very kind! Also they have accommodated my requests and offer to prepare a breakfast for my early check out! Location wise is very easy to reach and within few minutes walking from the main city attractions.

The hotel was very well situated and in easy walking distance of almost everything. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the beds were comfortable and the sheets were very clean. There isn't a lift and everything is up stairs so if you have limitations it might not be for you. It was a little bit shabby but that added to the character of this historical building.

This hotel is in a great location and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately I don't really have anything else positive to say. The room was very dirty. It had not had a proper clean in ages and was very run down. There was hair in the bath and sink. The toilet had never seen bleach. Dust covered most surfaces and was ingrained. The windows are obviously very old and didn't shut and the temporary window in front of it didn't stay shut unless you got it in the correct position. The curtains were not blackout. The breakfast was not the freshest and some pastries looked like they were from the day before as did some of the fruit. I avoided the ham and cheese as it was uncovered and looked a bit dry. Something to bear in mind is if you struggle with stairs there is no lift but that's common in these old buildings. This hotel has so much potential and it's a shame it's in the state it is. I definitely won't recommend or stay again.

This is an old, dated hotel. The room we stayed in was on the top floor and there was no lift! My husband is disabled (ankylosis spondylitis) and we are both in our sixties. We were not offered an alternative room and had to climb four flights of stairs. The room was dusty, the bathroom left a lot to be desired with hair all over the place. It felt as though it needed a good clean! It really was one of the worst hotels we have stayed in.

The hotel is in an impressive building. We were on the very top floor, so lots of steps. The staff were helpful when I had phoned them earlier in the day, as we arrived late in the evening. The room itself was okay, a little dated, but comfortable. The bathroom was not the best. The door to it kept sticking and this made it noisy to open. In the shower, the tray for soaps etc, was dirty with remains of the last visitor's soap. The complimentary wash products were nearly empty and the toilet roll was cheap. The extractor fan was so noisy that it drew your attention to it, and then you noticed how clogged with dust it was. However, the location was great, walking distance to the city and castle and everyone that we wanted to visit.

Despite the good position and the very nice staff, the hotel is terribly dirty and rundown. Unacceptable the state of the bathroom: blocked water evacuation, dirty everywhere, broken shower window. Moquette in the bedroom was terrible. Smell of cold tobacco and dust everywhere. Terrible
