The hotel is on the main street of Dunkeld but my room window was to the internal yard with hotel parking. Very calm location. Good size room. Very large screen TV set with Netflix. Great choice for breakfast with large portions. Very polite and helpful hotel staff.

Took the family and dogs. Great traditional hotel with fantastic food and very reasonable prices. Great setting with fantastic walks nearby. The outstanding River Tay and the bar areas are within a few minutes walk. The hotel has a beer garden which is a fantastic little setting. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Will be back again soon.

In 40 years of travelling, this was the worst hotel experience we've had. No hot water, no heating. Guests were coming to breakfast in heated waistcoats and winter coats. Staff were doing their best, but under threat of losing their jobs, they didn't cancel planned events. Head office was uncontactable to answer for the many breaches of health and safety rules we saw. I have never felt so unsafe in a hotel

When we arrived informed there were heating issues and from previous comments this has been ongoing for months, no hot water for a shower in the morning. At reception we had to ask for extra blankets it's Scotland it's still cold end March. Windows were in need of repair adding to the coldness of the room. The staff clearly working under duress but this was Fawlty Towers level, breakfast was a shambles with the chefs clothing visibly dirty. How this hotel has passed health & safety reviews is beyond me it needs a major refurbishment.

I hate leaving bad reviews but feel I have no choice but to do so. First the good things. Friendly but very over worked staff, one guy taking orders, bringing drinks and serving the meals. He still managed to be polite and friendly. The hotel is an old one (built in 1842) and has lots of old world charm. It has been newly decorated in the dining room and our bedroom had nice new carpets. Breakfast was ok the usual choices but only cereal for continental style breakfast, no pastries or choice of bread. We stayed on a Living social deal which was good value. The evening meal choice for those on a deal was very limited ( 2 starters, 3 mains or 3 desserts). Now to my main issue. We stayed 2 nights and the heating and hot water packed in on our first night. We had to get washed with cold water and didn't even attempt a shower. When we asked at reception we were told someone was coming out to fix it that day. We decided to go out for a while hoping that the heating would be on when we returned. No such luck. Our bedroom was freezing. I asked at Reception what was happening and was told it may be the next day before it could be fixed but the manager was trying to do something temporarily. I asked for a heater, but they had all been given out. No one from management was there to speak to guests or explain what was happening. We sat with 2 jumpers, hats and gloves on, before heading out to somewhere else for something to eat and a heat. The locals in the pub we went to were not impressed by the new company running the hotel and said this wasn't the first time it had happened. The next morning nothing had changed, still no hot water and a freezing bedroom and had to boil a kettle to get some hot water to wash. Everyone in the hotel felt the same issues. The hotel is served by a biomass boiler and it was suggested that they had perhaps run out of pellets. There were also a few simple things which would have improved the bathroom/ bedroom. No hairdryer, no tumbler in the bathroom to hold toothbrushes, no shelf or cupboard to put toiletries (had to use top of toilet cistern for these) and no hook in the bathroom to hang your clothes when using the shower. Simple things costing a few pounds which could have upgraded the stay. My main issue was with the lack of communication and management to explain to guests. If I had known that I wouldn't have been able to have a shower or hot water for two days, I would have returned home. I am not of the " compensation culture" but there was no offer of even a free drink never mind the offer of another evenings stay, at a later date, to make up for the inconvenience and hardship suffered.

Very tired hotel the bedroom was comfortable and warm the there were no tumblers at the sink they apparently don’t supply them so good luck rinsing out your mouth bedside lights were all dusty as was the breakfast room The car park desperately needs the large pot holes filled in our shoes we’re all mucky trying to get out onto the road On a plus the food was great staff were very friendly

We stayed in Dunkeld for a night and were delighted that we choose the Royal Dunkeld Hotel. The Carpark is located at the back and the hotel is quaint and clean. The staff are extremely friendly and the food was fantastic. The Steak Pie is well recommended as it was simply superb. The breakfast was great and there is a lot to choose from. I would definitely stay again. Please take time to meet or say hi to Jackson (Barman) in the main bar as he has a courteous manner. Well done RDH, we will be back.

This is an old hotel and therefore it is difficult to provide modern facilities. We were given a 2 night voucher as a gift that included an evening meal and we enjoyed our stay. The walking in the area is amazing and we were blessed with lovely spring weather. The staff in the restaurant, bar and breakfast room were exceedingly helpful, polite and friendly. It is clear that the rooms have been recently updated and the decor in room is nice however the standard double was way too small for us and was extremely uncomfortable. Neither of us got much sleep. In the bathroom you couldn’t swing a cat, the shower cabinet door was about to fall off its runners and was difficult to open and close and there was no water pressure. You were washing in a slow trickle of water. There was no evidence of housekeeping, we had to make the bed ourselves, the postage stamp towels were not changed and the tea tray was not refreshed. There was no hairdryer in the room which was fine because I didn’t try to wash my hair since there was no water pressure. The WiFi was was not high speed it was in fact non existent.

Lovely 2 night bed and breakfast stay here. Staff are all very friendly, thank you to Liam and the team for a great stay. Our room was nice and I would say recently decorated. Some previous comments say the rooms are small but we found ours to be adequate. The in built wardrobe was a fantastic space to store all our motorbike gear and luggage and leave us ample space within the room . The room was clean and tidy (thanks housekeeping). We did find the room to be cold, however, reception promptly provided a small heater as soon as we mentioned this and that did the trick. Meal in the bar was good and the atmosphere in general in the bar was friendly with a mix of residents and we think locals (which is usually a good sign) Breakfast both mornings was spot on (thanks chef). There was a residents area on the first floor with couches and tables away from bar which was a nice area to read the paper etc in peace. Overall a lovely stay in a beautiful town and we look forward to returning.
