The hotel is full of old-fashioned Scottish style. The first floor is a bar, restaurant, and a ******. The front desk clerk is very funny. He often drinks and chats in the bar. He will come over if you need anything. The corridor and stairwell are full of old-fashioned style and very romantic. The room is not big, with old-fashioned doors and windows. There is free parking. It is in the city center, Bajiao Street, the old train station, and the oldest church are all within a 5-minute walk. After reading many reviews on this site and looking for somewhere with two bedrooms we booked here. We knew there was an older part and a renovated part so we paid a little more for the newer two bedroom room. We got free parking as we booked directly with the hotel and had breakfast there in the morning. The room was excellent - all new and had everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We went for a walk to the railway station and then to the Octogon all very close. The staff then helped us with a taxi to dinner. My nephew was unwell during the night and the staff left us say in the room a little while longer while he slept longer. They were very understanding and a great help. The only negative was the breakfast was a little dry as I think it had been sitting in the buffet for a while. It still tasted good and did the job of filling us up. We would stay and book this room again.

Room is very clean and very well presented. Bed is very soft and comfortable. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. The location is perfect, walking distance to the city. The only downside is the parking as you need to book a head of time due to limited space but it would be more convenient to all having its parking available. Otherwise our stay was absolutely ๐๐ป .๐

This hotel is very self effacing. It says it is a 4 star but in fact it is better than that! Upon arrival we were welcomed and were lucky enough to be given an upgrade to a one bedroom suite. The room was absolutely spotless and the the servicing of the room was faultless! The bar is pleasant and service second to none! The restaurant was special. The food was at a very high standard as was the service! We loved this hotel and will stay there whenever we are in Dunedin

Pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a small sterile room, but was impressed with the size. Good size table to work from, 2 comfy chairs and good sized bathroom. Good facitlities and good breakfast at the onsite restaurant. No Aircon, but here was a fan to cool the room down. Only downside was that the light in the bathroom was falling off the ceiling but that will be easily fixed. TV doesn't tilt so you have to be sitting on the bed to watch it, which was a pain. All else was good. Good onsite parking.

We stayed 4 nights in the superior King room (Room 206) during the blizzard of Oct 2022. The room and bathroom were well-appointed and stunningly presented. It looks as good as advertised. The experience was excellent from check-in to check-out. Valet parking service was prompt and exceptional value - 30NZD a day feels like a steal. Service was attentive, responsive but not stuffy. Without intending to omit anyone, Romaine/Ramon(?) in The Press Club and Lianna(?) on the front desk were particularly easy to talk to. Of the 4 fine dining dinners we had in Dunedin, The Press Club at Fable was the stand out. It was well ahead of so-called โhattedโ restaurants like Moiety (donโt eat at Moiety, itโs terrible). The venison rack was a highlight.

This is a hotel with character and charm. We stayed here as a couple for two nights and shared a beautiful room with a sparkling clean en-suite. The room had a classic old-fashioned fire place (non-working) and the fine touches that you associate with Georgian or Victorian manor houses. The hosts were welcoming and went out of their way to accommodate our requests. There are only a few rooms so you have the feel of staying in a wing of a private home. If we return to Dunedin we are definitely staying here. Great value, great location and great ambience.

Jenny was very welcoming on arrival. The rooms were very clean and modern with a kitchenette. We had a ground floor room but the wifi only worked outside in the carpark and not in our room. The location was excellent with a lovely cafe down the road. Turn left out of the driveway. New World was just around the corner.

Breakfast is good, the room is beautiful! And staying here can get rid of all the tickets for the castle, I think it is still worth it. Students who are not self-driving can come here from the airport by pick-up bus, which is much cheaper than taking a taxi.

GGuest UserIt's great. The hotel is very clean. The boss was very enthusiastic and prepared a map for me as soon as I checked in. If I had any questions about my poor English, they were very patient in helping me answer questions. There is a very exquisite booklet in the room with various attractions and activities in Dunedin. The jacuzzi is also very comfortable.
GGuest UserAbsolutley the best place I've stayed at over the years. The room was modern, super clean and everything was provided. The bed was great and I had a fantastic sleep. The owners were very friendly and helpful and the cost was very reasonable too. The family rooms were booked out for my next Dunedin trip, but it will always be my first choice when staying in Dunedin now. Awesome!!
GGuest UserStayed two nights at this hotel which is located right in the CBD with an easy walk to the Dunedin Railway Station and Octagon where many cafes and restaurants are located. The hotel is situated down an alleyway but instructions received in an email from the hotel prior to arrival explained in detail how to get to the hotel. Our room was a good size with a king-sized bed along with a single bed. It was clean and serviced promptly each morning. The staff are friendly and reception suggested we have breakfast at The Good Oil just across the road. Would definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers.
GGuest UserExcellent hospitality! The motel has a good location, it is very clean and tidy. The host is so helpful and provides us with some attraction routes, which is more interesting than driving through the highway! And Rocky (Labrador) is soooo cute! We will definitely recommend this motel to our friends!
GGuest UserThere were lots of great things about this place, and at the same time it's the strangest place I have stayed in! First the great things - immaculate, amazing bed and super amazing shower. Large room, All of that was perfect. Then the not so great - nothing in the room to read about where to go for food, whether any place might deliver, wanted to order breakfast and it didn't seem to be an option. Ended up googling, then not finding the place I was looking for in Mosgiel (maybe it's shut down? It was all dark) so was happy to find Countdown and a soup for dinner with some food for breakfast. Then the terrible - they say they are contactless, which is all fine in this new world. I didn't know this before I came. As a result I didn't see a soul and as a traveller from out of town who was on her own I felt a little unsafe at having no contact with anyone (even at a distance would have been OK!). It felt a bit post-apocalyptic. I was wondering if they are scared to see people! This is New Zealand and there is no COVID in the community, so it seemed a bit over the top. I had trouble locking the door (it's a European lock and the instructions weren't enough for me), so went looking for help. Rang the door bell. No reply (there was a car outside and the lights were on). Then saw a notice saying I should phone. Did that and the recorded message said no one was available to talk to me Then got a text saying โPlease text meโ, did that saying I can't lock the door. No reply. I texted again asking if someone could please help me. Then I got a text back with better instructions which worked. That was the sum contact I had. If I had a serious problem would anyone have helped me? I didn't feel safe, as it felt like there was no one who would help out at all. In this regard I found the place quite unwelcoming. If they had reading material in the room with helpful info and including some warm and welcoming words, and so I could know that someone was there and actually cared, it would have helped a lot. I would have been quite happy not to see anyone, but to know they were there in the event of an emergency. So the summary - this was the most comfortable place I have stayed in for a long time. But as a single female traveller who needed some help with the room and a pointer as to where to get food on a winters night, I didn't feel safe.
GGuest UserCould not fault this establishment. The room itself was great - very spacious, modern furnishings, great amenities and spotlessly clean. The service however is what sets this place apart. After delayed flights and lost luggage we arrived in Dunedin exhausted and seriously disappointed in how our holiday had started. The lady who greeted us (I assume the owner, and so sorry we didnโt actually get a name) went above and beyond to help us and we could not be more grateful. Would highly recommend staying here if you are heading to Dunedin.
GGuest UserThe hotel is very convenient, right on the main street, and the owner is very helpful. The environment is good, the service is good, the sanitation is comfortable, very satisfied, will come again, recommend friends to stay in Dunedin.
From the moment I arrived, Cable Court Motels felt different from all the other accommodation options packed into this area of North Dunedin (I have stayed at 5-6 others in this area before). From check in to check out management where kind, helpful, friendly, compassionate and informative. This was a refreshing considerate interaction with managers who obviously take pride in their business and care for their staff and customers. Amazing to have accommodation that dogs are welcomed and not a burden, with no extra cost or hassle. Rooms were spotlessly clean and modern, warm and very spacious. Great location, walking distance to all Dunedin's CBD amenities. Thank you again, cannot recommend Cable Court Motel enough!
We always stay here when visiting Dunedin. The owner is always very pleasant, helpful and respectful. The room is always very clean with a big comfy bed. Very generous with the amount of extras that come with the room, for example, extra pillows, 3 heaters and plenty of tea, coffee and cookies. Always a very pleasant and comfortable stay at a reasonable price.
PPatC2740I picked this hotel because it was an ideal location for me and I was able to walk to where I needed to be each day, so I didn't need a rental car for 4 days! The rooms were warm, beds were very comfortable and the room was clean and tidy -definitely value for money and provided the basics. They can only fit so much into a room and provide the basics for what you're paying per night. The bar itself was great, loyal locals, typical pub food, and nice warm fire. I spent a few hours based in here doing my work and it was just fine. If you want all the bells and whistles, go somewhere else and pay more. Reviewers that knock these sort of places need to realistic about what to expect, or go and pay more and stay somewhere else.
