Great
GGuest UserI think this will be a nice stay once their remodel is done, but wait until then.
When booked initially, the reservation was for the Hard Rock Hotel. About a week and a half before I arrived, NYX acquired the building. We received no notification about this from either business. The hotel was slightly outdated and undergoing the beginnings of redecoration. The staff seemed to either be hired by NYX and unfamiliar with the hotel or previous employees who were unfamiliar with the new management’s policies. For example, the manual chain lock on my door had been disabled in both of our rooms and the staff at the desk didn’t seem to understand how it had happened. They did move me to a room with a working manual lock immediately, but didn’t seem to understand why I felt the need for one as a single woman in the room and assured me that the staff would respect my privacy. The person in the other room in our booking also had his disabled but didn’t want to bother moving. The next day, housekeeping barged into his room without waiting for an answer to her knock. The person inside was just finishing dressing.
Other than that, it’s just little things that haven’t yet been worked out in the management change. For example their card scanners in the rooms and elevators seem to be new and still finicky, and the person at reception hadn’t read the laundry policy on the NYX laundry slips in the rooms. The slips specified it would be back by 6pm if picked up by 8am, but she said it might be the next day. She also had me bring the laundry down to the reception desk when the slip said it would be picked up. The staff was actually really great and when I pointed it out I did get same day laundry; it seemed like a new management miscommunication.
Overall, I’d recommend staying here after they’ve had a chance to settle and remodel. They were already starting to take down the Hard Rock decorations and I suspect they will also redo the older and brightly colored carpets and walls. Since we didn’t receive any notifications about the new management and redecorating, I’m not sure there will be one about that either.
GGuest UserThe location is great, staff was helpful. The room was spotless, would like to have slippers in the room. The hair dryer was broken. But overall stay was pleasant, the bed was comfortable, additional pillows in the wardrobe was great, because I have spinal condition. Definitely would stay there on another visit to Dublin.
GGuest UserWe arrived around 5.30pm and stayed only one night. The welcome drink was a nice touch but however in the morning there was lots of banging next door to our room. My husband was up all night with a cold so we hadn’t slept much. When we walked out of our room at 9.30 am to have breakfast the cleaners were sitting in armchairs with their vacuums and cleaning g products. It felt like they were waiting for us to go. When we returned to our room to pack up ( check out is 12) there was a knock at our door at 11.30 by cleaners. It felt like a lot of pressure for us to get out and no privacy as they were siting outside.
The staff at breakfast hovered and were on top of us and asked us to order straight away before we even read the menu. The wait for the food was long and my eggs were cold when they came out.
There is no lift to our floor so passing the cleaners sitting in armchairs we also passed cleaners sitting on the stairs. The whole experience felt unwelcoming and not private.
The hotel it self is well located and beautiful interiors but wouldn’t stay there again. We have stayed at a lot of boutique and 5 star hotels all over the world and this was just average.
TTeacherTravelTimesI decided to ditch staying in the city centre based on my below par experiences there on my last trip. When looking on Trip.com, Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel in Dalkey was the same price as several dorm rooms in the city centre when I looked.
Getting there from Dublin Airport was relatively straightforward. I took and Aircoach from the airport to Dalkey/Ulverton Road and then walked for about 15 minutes. Up to the hotel entrance.
The hotel is fairly old fashioned but personally I found it very charming. The staff were well-trained in the art of hospitality, the rooms were clean, locals were in and out of the bar, restaurant and leisure centre.
Furthermore, the room was spacious with tea and coffee making facilities. The tv had a nice range of channels and the bathroom had a working shower and an abundance of towels. One thing missing was a toothbrush, toothpaste and shaving kit. I was told that you can get slippers on request as well.
Get the breakfast. It’s €16 and it’s a buffet style with a delicious selection of hot and cold food. There’s rashers, sausages, hash browns, pancakes, the works. I wish I could’ve eaten more! I loved that they had a wide range of ages working there as well. One of the staff tripped when she went to ask if everything was ok and she said ‘I’m fine, I’m falling for you!’ It was then that I knew that I was home.
The leisure centre is one of the best I’ve come across in a while. I’ve stayed in so many places where it’s literally an empty room with a few bits of old equipment but they had loads of weights, treadmills, bikes, etc. They do classes and physiotherapy as well. The pool and jacuzzi were also excellent. Plenty of ages in both as well but it wasnt overcrowded so you’ll get a few lengths in if you want.
Lastly, make sure to go for a walk about Dalkey and the surrounding areas. I spent the morning walking down to the Vico Baths, the Forty Foot (both swimming locations) and passed through Dalkey Village. Plenty of people will be out with their family and friends whether it be for a walk, bike ride, swim or a coffee and a chat. Ditch Dublin City and say yes to Dalkey!
GGuest UserLast time I stayed here ( about 6 years ago?) room was dirty so have not been back again until three weeks ago. Location is superb right at the edge of Temple bar along the River Liffey -downside its a party area so like most Hotels in this area dont plan to sleep until late as lots of noise from bars etc. Room was lovely with lots of nice touches -only big issues I had was in 12c Dublin coming from 32c Jakarta and central heating did not work-you have to call reception to get it switched on then it cuts off every hour and does not work again until you call reception-totally unacceptable for a 5 star Hotel . Ended calling them five times so not much sleep!! It was a Tuesday night so looked like one of the bars in the Hotel was shut-but lots outside anyhow. Did not have breakfast as last time I did was served-took ages and was cold-judging by recent reviews on tripadvisor looks like this still. Reception on check in and out would not win any prizes for their hospitality and were just ok-could learn from The Morrison across the river where I stayed a few nights earlier -genuine hospitality. Would I stay there again -NO -leave it to Bono and the locals -heat is a basic requirement as is hospitality-better Hotels for the same or less money to be had in Dublin City.
Ttravel_wander_discoverHostel is cozy and clean. Location is good and beds are comfortable. Staff is very friendly and polite. They let me to leave my luggage there even though I arrived early in the morning. Unfortunately, there was an older person with some health and breathing conditions that didn’t let anyone sleep in our dorm room. He could even barely walk up the stairs to the third floor not to mention climbing onto the upper bunk. I think that this kind of situation should be reconsidered with care and solution for everyone.
GGuest UserWe stayed at Clink i Lár in Dublin and overall found it clean, comfortable, and mostly quiet. The lobby has a nice coffee bar and a breakfast buffet (which looked good, but we didn’t try). If you’re interested in breakfast, book ahead—it’s 2 euros more if you wait.
The onsite bar closes at midnight, which helps keep things quiet, though we arrived at 12:15 and missed out on a Guinness—disappointing timing! Check-in starts at 3 PM and checkout is a firm 10 AM—we overheard other guests who missed checkout by five minutes and were locked out of their room.
We had two back-to-back bookings for a private six-bed room. Instead of letting us stay, they made us check out and check back in five hours later—even though it was the same room type. They offered a late checkout/early check-in option, but with extra fees per person. It seemed like more work for them and a frustrating policy for us.
Overall, a good location and clean hostel, but the rigid booking policy was a downside.
BBCAdamGreat location short walk from Temple Bar tourist area. The hotel was very clean and presentable. Room is on the smaller side but just what you need for a nights rest. Bathroom was excellent. Overall appearance seemed newly updated. Would stay again. Great price.
GGuest UserAmazing First Hostel Experience – Highly Recommend!
I had never stayed in a hostel before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect—but my stay at Generator Dublin completely exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was welcoming and comforting.
The dorms were clean and well-maintained, and I was especially impressed with how spotless the bathrooms and toilets were. They even provide hair dryers, which is such a thoughtful touch.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout my stay—special shoutout to Alex, who was always kind and approachable. The vibe downstairs was super fun and lively. Even if you don’t have plans for the evening, there’s plenty to do right at the hostel—games, live music, and a party-like atmosphere that makes it easy to meet people and just enjoy the night.
I was also lucky to have great dorm mates, which made the stay even more enjoyable.
All in all, staying at Generator Dublin as my first hostel experience was truly memorable and amazing. I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, clean, and social place to stay in Dublin.
XXuanliFirst time staying in a double bed. The location of the hotel is very good and it is very clean. I think for a cheapest youth hostel here with a price of more than 300 yuan for two people, the expectations were not high, so it met the expectations. The boss is also very nice and stored a lot of luggage for free in advance.
The facilities and convenience are indeed average. The bed is clean, but the bedding is made of a soft synthetic fiber material that is not very breathable, and charging is not very convenient.
