Lovely hotel in a great location. It's a historic property which means some parts of the room could do with a little refresh. Overall stunning bedrooms with good character. Staff were super helpful and friendly.

Overpriced for the Experience Provided We stayed at Hotel Elgin, Darjeeling, expecting a premium experience considering the tariff of approximately ₹14,000 per night for a deluxe room. Unfortunately, the stay was quite disappointing overall. On the first day, we were given a room whose windows faced a wall, with virtually no sunlight or pleasant view, making the room feel dull and claustrophobic. After we complained, the staff shifted us the next day to another room on the ground floor with a much better view and natural sunlight. We were informed that all rooms were booked, so the shift could only happen later. While the second room was definitely better, there were still several maintenance and cleanliness issues that should not exist at this price point. The bathroom seat was dirty and had to be cleaned again after we pointed it out. The TV initially did not have proper channel access, which was fixed only after a request. We also noticed nails protruding from the floor and furniture, which again required attention from the staff. To be fair, the staff members were polite, courteous, and responsive whenever complaints were raised. However, the larger issue is that the property seems to rely heavily on its “heritage” tag while charging premium prices without maintaining the rooms to premium standards. A heritage property can certainly have old-world charm, but basic upkeep, cleanliness, repairs, and comfort should match the amount guests are paying. At this pricing, guests expect a far more polished and well-maintained experience.

Elgin is elegance epitomised. The warm hospitality extended by every member of the staff—beginning with manager, Badal Majumdar, and extending to Chef Raja, Subba, Ashok, and the rest of the team—is truly commendable. It is this genuine care and attentiveness that draws us back to the property time and again. They possess an intuitive understanding of how to pamper their guests, seamlessly ensuring comfort while delighting the palate, all with remarkable warmth and finesse. The rooms are impeccably maintained, and the landscaping is nothing short of exquisite. Elgin Darjeeling is a beautiful heritage property that truly reflects old-world charm. Our three-night stay in the Deluxe Suite was very comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The main building stands out with its vibrant decor and classic colonial character, adding to the property’s timeless appeal. While the food spread was limited, the dishes were delicious and the attentive staff made the overall dining experience enriching. The room was thoughtfully decorated, and the bed was especially comfortable and warm, perfect for Darjeeling’s chilly climate. Overall, it was a memorable stay and I would definitely recommend this property.

Sadly this was not a good experience Hotel is not clean or cared for. Very run down. Needs a complete refurbishment Staff were lovely but poorly trained Food wasn’t good

I was so disappointed with the Elgin. My room was not clean, the light switches were dirty, the settee so stained and grubby I would not sit on it. The duvet cover didn’t seem to fit the duvet, one curtain was hanging off and they were very worn. Food quality was ok, but nothing special. The waiters were pleasant but service was slow. If as much trouble was taken on the inside as was on the manicured lawn it may be different. Seemed very unloved and in need of a complete refurbishment.

The bedding , bathrobes & soft furnishings were stained, including the lampshades. Bedding changed. However the bedding doesn’t fully over the duvet, so not very hygienic. Very noisy room, both internal plumbing and the noise from around, possibly the kitchen. If wasn’t with a group would have checked out immediately. Do not recommend. Value is very poor.

Darjeeling is known for wide spread power outages. The Elgin Resort is no exception. However, it appears that the hotel is illequipped to deal with these adequately. The emergency power generator does not provide support for the room heaters. It is only for lights. The guests freeze in the meantime! It appears for economic reasons that the power generator in the The Elgin is limited. We had to cut short our stay for that reason. Pity the Oberoi management has not quite got the hang of addressing such basic necessity.

This heritage property is right in the heart of the city, 10 min walk from Mall Road. The rooms were big, luxurious and have large windows to look at the scenic beauty. The reception is little gloomy but the lounge is artistic, rustic and full of old artifacts. There’s no compromise when it comes to cleanliness and amenities. The food is awesome, tasty and service is fast. It’s a value for ur money!

We stayed for 2 nights in this property. Location of the property is good as Mall road is nearby. But the property is very old and not maintained well now. Food is okay but having limited options. Service is good. Facilities are not maintained, even the lobby area is having dirty sofas. TVs dont work on its own, taps are rusted. Better to avoid this property, not worth the price.

The Elgin Hotel in Darjeeling is quite an English-style hotel. The hotel's staff and everything about the hotel was so amazing that I'd give it more than five ratings - it would be an understatement. My daughter's health became very poor while we were staying at this hotel, and we had to take her to the hospital in an emergency. And the hotel staff were so cooperative - whether it was the driver taking her to the hospital or the General Manager coming to the hospital with water, blankets, checking on food, every single person from the manager to the sweeper was so helpful. They kept bringing us medicines whenever we needed them. Even when my daughter vomited in the room, the staff kept coming to change it. They were very concerned about my daughter's health. They even provided us with dinner in our room at night and breakfast in the room because we couldn't make it to the buffet due to my daughter's condition. The checkout time is usually 11 am, and typically hotels start calling you, but this hotel let us stay until 2 pm without once asking us to checkout - they were very understanding because my daughter wasn't well. I'm very thankful to this hotel and its staff for showing so much cooperation. I can't give it enough ratings - if you're going to Darjeeling, without a doubt, you should stay at Elgin Darjeeling.

A fabulous hotel with wonderful staff. The rooms are huge and have lovely views of the mountains. It's in a great location, a short walk from town but away from the noise. Thanks to all the staff for an amazing stay. We'll definitely be back again.

Oh dear! Heritage but chaotic and disappointing. This hotel could be so much better but it’s stuck in the past. The good - the lounge is lovely and check in is efficient. The rooms are cleaned well and staff try to be helpful. Fantastic views! The not good: breakfast. Fruit tasted odd - almost a bit “off”. Eggs have to be ordered. You might get them within 15 minutes, or you might get nothing. Ditto coffee. You make your own roast. There’s a table spoon size portion of marmalade on the table for 4 people. Butter is little more than a teaspoon in size. Warm milk with the cereals and little choice (2). Easily the worst breakfast of anywhere we stayed in India. Tour company chose the hotel. The room - good size but very average bathroom with barely functional shower over the chipped bath. Poorly lit. Towels - thin and grey. They had seen better days as had the bed linen. No crisp white sheets here! Blue brushed cotton sheet under a similar white duvet cover. Very heavy duvet and two hard pillows each. Bottom sheet was stained. The worst bed on the holiday by far. The garden - attractive covered seating area marred by plastic covered cushions on the garden furniture that were tired and unattractive. Should be much better. Bottom line - this hotel needs an overhaul and better management. It’s not good enough and is resting on laurels gained in some bygone era. I’d look elsewhere.
