Chief Motel

The room was clean and comfortable! The staff and owner were very friendly and helpful! My granddaughters really enjoyed the pool too! Super close downtown activities. We would absolutely recommend staying here!!

This motel may not look like much, but it is worth the stay! We arrived after office hours and our key was waiting, though we had called ahead and reserved. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. The decor might not be to everyone's taste, but still fine. Within walking distance was a great coffee shop and there was a brewery RIGHT NEXT DOOR! There was a large indoor pool, which we didn't use, but which looked well maintained.

We stayed at the Chief motel three nights during our trip to the Black Hills. The room had two super comfy queen beds, a small fridge and a large screen TV. It was immaculately clean and very quiet. The motel is perfectly situated right next to Rushmore Brewery and within walking distance to Custer's main shopping and dining area, yet being very quiet. The motel is also very motorcycle friendly. We will dwfinitely come back.

Our family of 4 stayed in one of the family rooms, which included two queens and a twin...perfect for us! The room was very clean and Bruce, the owner, was so helpful and kind throughout our stay. We used the pool and hot tub every evening, which was great after a day spent hiking. The motel's location is prime time...within walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants in downtown Custer, which made for an excellent home base for our Black Hills trip. We would absolutely stay there again.

This is an old-fashioned motel that you drive up and park right in front of your room. The owner/manager is nice and knows a lot about the Custer area. The room had a comfy king-size bed, a small refrigerator, nice sized TV, and adequate sink and bath facilities. The large indoor pool and hot tub are a big drawing card. The rates here are much more reasonable than the chair motels down the road. I picked this motel due to Trip Advisor reviews, and they were spot on. It was a fine stay, and I would likely stay again.

We recently travelled to South Dakota and decided to stay in mom-n-pop motels instead of chains along the way. I searched many reviews and found a theme with the family-owned motels - not fancy but clean, comfy, and full of wonderful, helpful people. Chief Motel did not disappoint. It wasn't fancy but it was very clean, the room was comfy and Bruce and Nancy, the innkeepers were friendly and super helpful! We stayed there for several days while exploring Custer State Park and the surrounding Blacks Hills areas and it was a PERFECT home base. Everything we wanted to see was close by. We travelled as a family and enjoyed the Two Room Queen-Double which allowed us a little privacy with the slide of a pocket door. The pool was great after a long day hiking! I loved everything about our stay here! Highly recommend!

We were accommodated by a nice owner of the motel and he accommodated our last minute reservation. Our room was very clean and very nice. A large flat screen TV, a/c and comfortable beds. The bathroom was very clean and spacious. Mini refrigerator and microwave. Plenty of mirrors and storage. Each room has assigned parking right in front of each room which is convenient.
