What a great place to stay in the heart of Settle. The Golden Lion with its open fires, friendly, welcoming and efficient staff make you feel at home. The rooms are to a good standard, with excellent quality beds and bedding with a little added luxury of Whites Company bathroom products. The added bonus for us that is also dog friendly with even providing dog blankets and towels at the entrance if you require them. The breakfast is of the highest standard with excellent quality ingredients and nothing is too much other for the attentive staff. We also used the restaurant on the Saturday evening and the food, drink and service were also faultless. When we visit different places we usually attempt to try different accommodations to see what is on offer, but when we visit settle again in the near future we will be staying again at the Golden Lion, no need to try anywhere else, friendly, comfortable and good value for money, why go elsewhere.

Two out of the 4 of us ordered suet pudding. Large helping but very stodgy. Both had terrible diarrhoea the next day. Other meals, steak and chicken were okay. Very disappointed as pub was decent but you shouldn't be paying for food to get ill on it.

We went to the Golden Lion for a pub dinner as a group of 4. Service was very slow (and we only ordered 1 starter), our drinks were forgotten about and we were not provided water despite glasses on the table, the food was average at best and I would say overpriced even for the area (noted unhelpful reply from manager regarding similar issues previously on trip advisor). Would not recommend or return.

My friend and I planned a day trip on the Carlisle to Settle railway with a 2+ hour layover in Settle at lunchtime. We stopped a passer by when we got off the train and asked for a recommndation for a light lunch. Our adviser suggested the Golden Lion - great food, she said. It was just across the road so we accepted the advice. After we were seated we asked about light lunch option and were give the 'lunch' menu which was a variety of sandwiches. Initially shocked by the prices, we decided that on the strength of the recommendation this would be something special so both order prawn marie rose on brown bread, one with the included chips and mine without. After a lengthy wait our plates arrived. Anticipating the king of sandwiches at there prices my plate had two small slices of supermarket brown bread with some lettuce and prawns out of a ready made pack. No garnish, just the poor little sandwich. Wishing not to spoil our day by complaining, we ate the food, paid and left. The cost of the sandwiches alone (x2) was £27.90 !!!!! It was complete robbery. As we walked further around Settle in stunned rage, we noticed a wide range of attractive coffee shops. We suggest to other travellers that the Golder Lion is only for those who have won the lottery.

We stayed at the Golden Lion in the centre of Settle for a couple of nights with friends. The rooms were very comfortable and also unique in character, not corporate like many hotels are. Great amenities in the room with plenty of space to relax. The staff could not do enough for us and were very hospitable and pleasant. We ate at the hotel on both evenings despite there being numerous places to eat in the town and we weren’t disappointed by the quality, nor the quantity of the meals. Breakfasts were also delicious and huge! Will definitely return again to enjoy the experience!

A great place stay - and eat. We stayed here with a group of 15 in september 2023 and experienced true Yorkshire hospitality from the moment we entered the buidling and were met by friendly, enthusiastic staff. The bar and restaurant were busy, but the had still got the time to give us a very friendly welcome and with the fastest check-in our group has ever expreienced. Rooms are traditionally furnished. Some are smaller "cosy" rooms that are quite compact, but adequate, there are standard rooms and character rooms. The character rooms are larger witha sofa and a table. If there is anything one could wish for, it would be a wrting desk and perhaps more storage space. There is hopsitality tray with bottled water and a large selection of tea and coffee. We had breakfast and dinner for three days. Menu is small, but food is extremely good. Everyone was impressed espcially with the fish dishes. The cod loin was amazing. Service may seem a little bit slow, but food is obviously cooked to order and is always piping hot. But above all, the greatest asset is their staff. They are really friendly and approchable at all times. They did everything to make our stay a great one. We would be very happy to return!

Nice warm log burner greeted us (23rd Dec was wet n cold) The bedroom was small but perfectly fine bed was clean and comfortable had a good night's 😴 sleep. Breakfast was good my beans were cold but the very nice young lady dealt with it swiftly and politely She was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. It's a good central location and lovely for a few pints over the weekend 😀

Stood at bar for 10 mins whilst larger than life barman and Mrs Mediocre chatted to their mates. Absolutely no greeting welcome or acknowledgement. Really rude service from Mr Big. People after us walked out in disgust. Poorly managed pub and filthy toilets and tables.
