I stayed at the Novotel next door a few days ago, and then moved to this hotel because the Novotel was fully booked. Granted, I'm a bit biased living in Asia. Hotels there are so much better and cheaper than in most places in Africa. Nevertheless, I'm afraid that for the money I paid I simply cannot accept a badly working wifi, 1 towel, no replacement of toilet paper, broken fridge, no English language channels on TV, and a mattress that is on one side sagging. Worse, when (repeatedly) asked to deal with some of these issues, an affirmative reply was never followed up. Finally, dismissive, if not to say plain arrogant, staff attitudes in the restaurant made this an experience not to repeat.

We recently traveled from the US to Benin with a group of 20 people and stayed 7 nights at Golden Tulip Diplomate Cotonou. Our experience was fantastic from start to finish! Accommodating & helpful front desk staff, clean & comfortable rooms, wonderful daily housekeeping services. We utilized the breakfast buffet in the mornings and found a large variety of fresh foods to choose from each day. We also dined in the hotel's restaurant nightly. The food was good and the restaurant team was so organized and timely with serving a large group of our size. Every staff member we encountered throughout our stay was friendly and desired to assist us with anything we needed in that moment. A special thank you to the hotel manager for his professionalism and kindness! We would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Cotonou area. The location is convenient and you will enjoy your experience!

Great Hotel, staff extremely welcoming. Edward the general manager called me the day of my visit and before my arrival to welcome me and offer free airport airport transport. My room was on the second floor room 206, I had a view of the sea in the distance, a very clean and comfortable room, unless you put the card on your door to say do not disturb your room gets cleaned everyday. The staff in the restaurant were also very polite. Breakfast consists of a variety of help yourself choices and a lady there to cook anything you needed, eggs of any variety, I had fried eggs most days and after a couple of days she already knew what I wanted and delivered with a smile 😊. The main menu is a little limited but I was there for 12 days so can't really complain. The food was always delivered well cooked and very well presented, if I had a criticism it would be to suggest they heat the plates as sometimes, not always piping hot. Room service is great too. The pool area is always kept clean and free towels provided by the pool attendant. My other criticism was that on Friday and Saturday nights there is loud music from one of the bars below, the music seemed louder on my side of the hotel and went on until 4am, my colleague on the other side ( pool side, room 217) heard nothing, they did offer to move me if I wanted which was very nice but only had one more night so didn't change. All in all a great hotel.

A modern and well-equipped hotel, close to the US Embassy. This also means it is a little further from the city centre, but close to the airport. The room was clean, the hallway was a little less so. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, service was friendly. But very expensive, the quality is not commensurate with the price.

Another mistake in Cotonou. Easter Day, wanted to take wife and two children to the pool and have brunch. big mistake. we arrived and were told they didn't have enough umbrellas. now, if you guys know anything about west africa you must know that the sun kills, mostly if you are as pale as me. we ordered food which eventually arrived. no cutlery. wife asked for a cocktail. never delivered. people smoking next to mine and their children all over the place. we left. and it wasn't even cheap.remember: This is one of the best hotels in Cotonou! i will leave to you to imagine the rest. stay away.

The Golden Tulip Le Diplomate of Cotonou, is the ne of the best hotels I visited these last 12 months! The amenities are beautifully designed and equipped in a French Modern style with all necessary tools in the rooms: hot water, air conditioning, heater, hair dryer, comfortable chairs and bed. The hotel have more than 1 ( 2 to 3) restaurants, a pool, an equipped gym, a spa etc…Internet speed is good! The pool is frequently cleaned and every night staff ensure the pool area is cleaned and kept neat! I’ve seen very few hotels taking so much good and regular care of their pool in this side of the Globe. But beyond the amenities, the most valuable assets is the STAFF! Oh my! The staff are just WONDERFUL! Always smiling and very quick in reaching out to you for support! From the front desk to the restaurant and even to the house keeping staff, we were amazed! On the departure day, I called the front desk to ask for support with my many luggage: Audrey was the front desk attendant who picked the call and promised to get some one to come help me! I was surprised some few minutes later, swing her coming he self to who! I ask why did you come yourself? And she said the other house keeping staff were all busy and I opted to come myself. I was ashamed to let a Lady carry my luggage and managed to help her. That’s an example of how engaged, passionate and devoted the staff are! Other exemplary staff were Kenneth at the Restaurant l’Instant who coordinated so well the amazing teams members serving in the Restaurant such as Edith, Aïcha, Olga, Paulette, Armelle! At the front desk, beside Audrey, were Cendra and Edgard! The schuttle drivers were also so helpful and always with a smile even when some of our delays and changes put additional pressure on them! If I will ever go back to this Hotel or recommend it, it will definitely be because of these amazing staff and I will hope that he Hotel is taking very good care of these rare treasures! The only down note was from one of the French supervisors in the Restaurant who while we were still eating (it was after 8:00 PM) started putting off lights in the restaurant, a very impolite way to tell us it was getting late! He even didn’t care when we reacted smoothly to that and I had to personally call on and complain to one of the Benin male staff who went and had the light turned back. The Hotel did well in having local painting and art crafts and I would love to see even more such as a expos Gallery to allow younger Benin craft artists to make expos in the hotel…

Higher end prices for Benin, lower end quality for what you pay. Good service overall in spite of language barrier.Air conditioning in room barely got the room cool, no matter what level you turned on fan level. At least once or twice a week, no towels left to shower, and being in Central Africa, with the heat, you would think they would provide ample towels. No, and the quality of them is horrid, and they don’t launder them with enough detergent, so you can smell the stench of the last use though they were laundered. Yet this place has doubled in price since it opened? A soda costs four times what it does at a store. The quality of food is good overall, though their menu lacks variety. They do have a “buffet” almost nightly, but usually costing about $30 which is obscene. Again, simply put, they would like to tout themselves as a four or five star hotel, and make you pay as such, but give you merely 3 star at best rooms, amenities, and ambiance.
