WhyHotel by Placemakr, Columbia

Carpet had lots of stains. There was a dead stink bug in a cob web on the ceiling bathroom. Unit was extremely far from the parking garage. Locking the door could be forgotten and someone could walk in if you didn’t turn the latch over. Overall it was ok.

I chose the property because of the location. The ad did not reveal it is a “pop up hotel. Only two floors were used as the hotel. I have some mobility issues and Eva’s first assigned to a unit with a deep tub and shower. I had reserved a studio unit. I was told none of the studio units had walk in showers. I expressed a concern and was assured the next day I would be moved into a unit with a walk in shower. When I went to the office the next day I was told o units were available. After I returned to the room and went online to discuss my situation a few minutes later nI received a message that a room had become available. Knowing that none of the studio units had walk in showers on my return visit I booked a one bedroom unit thinking this would eliminate the shower issue. Wrong!! After much discussion and finally talking to the manager I was assigned a one bedroom unit with a walk-in shower. The shower issue was big with me because I am 86 and the issue of falling is a big concern. I was very surprised that the hotel did not seem to have to comply with the American with disabilities act. There were no grab bars in the shower or any where in the hotel. Connecting to the internet was an issue during my second stay because the information was not posted as it had been on my previous stay. Also there was a fire alarm that proved to be false. Thank goodness because no information was posted in the room about an evacuation My internet connection was cut off early!

Whyhotel by PlaceMakr is a hidden gem located inside a mixed use complex. I have been staying here at the hotel for 2 weeks now while searching for an apartment to rent. The hotel is apartment like located on the 4th and 5th floor at the Marlow apartment building - fully furnished rooms, refrigerator, a kitchen, dish washer, washer and dryer. If you have an EV, charging is free with 4 chargers on every floor in the parking garage. As a hotel guest, you have full access to the amenities at the Marlow: 24/7 gym, half a dozen office spaces with large screen monitors and TV for remote workers, game room, two high end espresso machines that make addictive gourmet drinks. I have asked the staff to give me a one bedroom apartment with a floor plan identical to an apartment I was considering to rent at the Marlow, which they gladly accommodated. Everyone in the office is friendly and very helpful. I highly recommend this hotel.

We ended having to stay in the hotel for a month as we keep having delays on our new house renovation but our stay in WhyHotel was wonderful specially Rich Asante and Khalil Muhammad went the extra mile in making us feel at home and helping us on every little issues. The place is ultra modern and location super convenient, lots of restaurants and close to the Mall, shops and movies... Khalil and Rich made the number one difference and for sure they are an asset for the company. Thank you !!!

The hotel rooms are located in a new apartment complex. Everything is new and modern. Coworking space and conference rooms available on the first floor. The restaurants in the complex are very good. You’ll need a car to get around.

For some reason the fire alarms went off at 10:30 Monday or Tuesday night. Several went to their cars. When the alarms stopped, we returned to our rooms. No explanation was ever given for the event.

Terrible water pressure and runs out of hot water so fast! Barely any pressure at all, made showers very difficult. Tried to take a bath and the room ran out of hot water before I could fill up the tub. The remote didn't work and the bed was not very comfortable. Very cheap furniture.

Property is amazing! But they tried to charge my card $530 upon checking out without any communication as to why.

Pros: nice place overall, pretty generic but much exactly as advertised, plenty of room for two adults in a small 1BR apartment. Stocked with the basics in the kitchen (cooking utensils, pots, plates/utensils/glasses/mugs/flatware, coffee maker, kettle), bed was decent, bathroom was fine. The community it's in seemed nice - didn't take advantage but there was an ice rink, a few restaurants, walkable; in hotel a sizeable and accessible gym and nice outdoor pool/lounge area. Small cons: Big walk-in closet, but seemed a weird waste of space, and had no hangers at all. Would have been nice if it had been furnished with a mirror, maybe a dressing table or chair for getting ready outside the bathroom. No shelf or holder in shower for "stuff" like shampoo/soap - had to leave shower stuff on the floor which was a little weird. Towels were pretty meh and not enough of them, definitely suggest BYO bath towels. The building was not well marked as containing Why Hotel/Placemkr - after wandering between the two buildings a bit, asked a very nice gentleman we asked took us through to get to the hotel part - not sure we would have found it on our own, it was very confusing (probably not helped by the construction) and the sign on the door identifying it as WhyHotel was a small decal. Overall though, a pleasant if bland place to stay for a few nights at a reasonable cost for what you get, would stay again if in the area.
