Despite the bustling atmosphere and classic, dark decor, the private onsen and dining experience make this a standout choice in the area. Hightlights: The room: Spacious with beautiful wooden floors and a private outdoor onsen. Soaking in the heat while snow falls is pure magic. Features like the "His&Her" sinks and an in-room massage chair make our stay more comfortable. All complimentary in the room adds a thoughful touch. Dining: The buffet offers and impressive variety of local dishes alongside beautifully plated mains. Even when busy, the staff sustematically managed the seating, ensuring we enjoyed the stunning winter views comfortably. The Hokkaido cheese pizza and dessert are absolute must-tries. Location and Service: Perfectly situated in the heart of the sightseeing district, with famous sweet shop right nearby. The complimentary valet parking and polight, perfessional staff made our stay seamless. Observations: Atmosphere: The common areas can feel a bit crowded due to its popularity. Design: The room interiors are a bit outdated and lean toward very dark tones, and notably, Netflix is not available on the in-room TV. Note: Windows are fixed; ventilation is managed via the onsen balcony door. Verdict: Highly recommended for foodies and onsen lovers who want to be the center of the action.

It was a freezing cold day. When I arrived at the hotel, they scrolled through several pages of booking lists but couldn't find my name. I had booked the buffet dinner, but it turned out to be in a separate building. We mentioned we had children and hoped to eat earlier. Dinner started at 6 PM, but when we left our room at 5:45 PM, they told us it was already full and we shouldn't bother going over... Then, we waited until 6:40 PM for them to call and say there were finally seats available. Everything else was fine, but it definitely wasn't worth over 6000 a night.

This was a huge miss, booking a hotel based on Xiaohongshu recommendations! I was already disappointed with the influencer-hyped hotel next door, which cost over 3,000, but this place was even worse. For 4,900 a night, the room didn't even have a private onsen. The outdoor hot spring had no view. The dinner buffet was extremely mediocre, clearly just pre-made dishes. What's even more ridiculous is that for such an expensive hotel, there were no welcome fruits, not even bottled water. The hotel is just one small building. The lobby in the pictures looks good because of the fireplace, but in reality, it's completely different. There are no entertainment facilities. One night is manageable, but two nights would be incredibly boring. Afterwards, I stayed at Marukoma Onsen Hotel, which was less than half the price and had much better food and views. The hotel did have Chinese staff, but they couldn't solve any problems. Definitely avoid going during the Ice Festival, it's even more expensive then. The Ice Festival pales in comparison to those in China. Lake Shikotsu is beautiful though. This hotel isn't worth staying at if the price is over 2,000.

The room was spacious, the hot spring was very comfortable, the food was delicious, and the service was excellent.

The hotel management is really poor. The public hot spring always has a sticky film on top, and there were foreign objects in the large pool where people lie down, almost cutting my skin. The worst part is that these things can't be removed. The day after soaking, my feet were incredibly itchy, probably due to a fungal infection. People with tattoos and whatnot were also soaking, and no one seemed to care. At 9 AM, staff members were walking around the hot spring area in outdoor snow boots, which was absolutely disgusting. And the funniest thing is, you have to take off your shoes when entering this hotel, and you're not allowed to wear slippers inside the entire hotel. I won't even mention the insufficient floor heating; walk around in socks for a bit, and white socks turn grey. Luggage can be wheeled through freely, so just imagine how dirty it must be. The dinner buffet was mediocre. I ordered a glass of red wine and had a headache all day afterward. The breakfast buffet the next day, however, was decent. I probably won't go back and hope they seriously improve their management. Don't tarnish the Tsuruga brand.

This stay was pretty average, nothing particularly remarkable. The basic cleanliness of the room was acceptable, with no obvious dirt or mess, but the facilities were a bit old and not very convenient to use. Check-in at the front desk was a normal speed, and while the service wasn't overly enthusiastic, it was polite, and they answered questions simply. The soundproofing was mediocre; I could hear some hallway noise at night. The value for money was just okay – no special surprises, but no major issues either. It's the kind of place you could stay at, or easily skip.

Just a heads-up about transportation: make sure you find the shuttle pick-up point. Luckily, a Trip.com staff member helped me with the booking.

Great great ryokan. We booked a room with private onsen. The whole vibe of the hotel is so luxury and relaxing. Only stayed for a night but wished we stayed longer. Dinner was amazing. Breakfast is traditional japanese so might not be everyone's cup of tea. All in all a fantastic experience with great food, great vibes and super attentive staff. Highly recommend.

The hotel offers a shuttle service for guests to and from the airport and JR station. I found the shuttle schedule and booked my seat easily on the hotel's official website, which was very convenient. The hotel's buffet breakfast was also quite extensive.
