Le Relais de Chhlong

BEAUTIFUL and charming are the top words that come to mind when I think back of our experience at Relais de Chhlong. The beautiful architecture and garden plus the amazing view of the Mekong River, with fine interior details in the room and all corners of this place, make a perfect place to unwind, relax and rejuvenate. There's lots of activities to do and I suggest at least 3nights stay. I visited twice, the small flea market which opens so early in the morning, perfect for me as I'm an early riser! I bought fresh fruit juices there! I explored the village with a bicycle, after doing my morning yoga routine. They helped arrange a kayaking tour in the flooded forests in Kratié where you can spot the dolphins... awesome! We stayed in probably the best room they have - No1, with a grand view of the Mekong River! I slept like a log, very comfy bed and pillows... and it has a huge bathroom! I would definitely come back when I get the chance.

r) The hotel is housed in the former French governor’s residence. It’s a lovely building, with a number of elegantly furnished suites. The vibe is of a 1920s house party, complete with evening wear available to borrow (no one did). There’s a good size pool (unheated) and the restaurant serves good food. Breakfast on the first day was disappointing, as there had been a group staying and they did a buffet, with fried eggs kept warm; but they provided fresh eggs when asked, and breakfast was much better on subsequent days. The manager arranged transport for a trip to Kampi to see dolphins, and he arranged our minibus transport to Kampong Thom when we left. We were due to have an early pickup, so we were given breakfast boxes to take with us.

The hotel is in a beautiful French colonial building that was once a customs house. It has been lovingly restored and the decor makes one feel as if one has stepped back in time. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The restaurant whilst not reflective of local prices serves a nice food at dinner time. The breakfast is decent but could do with more variety given the price of the rooms. Chhlong is about 40 minutes from Kratie so if you don’t have your own transport you are rather stuck. A shuttle service might attract more visitors. That said staying in the hotel was an experience which we don’t regret.

The room was well cleaned and well maintained. The staff provided excellent assistance. There is nothing more we could have asked for. All food was very good and freshly prepared. Highly recommended.

My wife and I have stayed here many times. The property is always impeccably maintained. The staff is very friendly and professional. All of our needs are met all the time. A special thank you to Visna. The breakfast is great and the evening menu is delicious as well. We highly recommend Le Relais.
