On May 27, 2023, we made a reservation at Maison Claire for a triple room and a twin room. We chose this location due to its proximity to a venue and to avoid the hassle of ordering taxis. However, our plans took an unexpected turn when my mother fell ill. I inquired about the hotel's dog-friendly policy on July 12 and again on July 26. Maison Claire responded on July 29 with two messages: one stating I had a twin room (which was odd) and another confirming they were not dog-friendly. As the date approached, my eldest daughter decided to stay behind. On August 5, Claire contacted us to provide parking details. On August 12, they attempted to charge the booking amount, encountering issues. Claire reached out via text, and despite my daughter's explanations that we were en route, the texts persisted. Even though she explained I was driving. It felt odd. Claire asked for A bank transfer and wanted our card details. We ignored that as it was contra to booking.coms Eventually, the payment went through after my daughter updated the card. Upon arrival, we discovered the twin room was located in an insecure courtyard at the back, and my daughter didn't feel safe staying there. The courtyard even had a car and laundry, unlike the pictures depicted. The room, while looking nice initially, was small, with peculiar features like a hanging rail above the kettle. The shower temperature was inconsistent, taking around ten seconds to adjust, causing my husband to burn himself. My complaint to Claire was met with a dismissive "Shower is fine." The room had mold around the toilet, peeling tiles on old tiles, a damp wooden shelf, and a non-functioning vent. The window frames were filthy, and there was even hair in the bed. The single bed's headboard was broken, and the flat TV over the bed protruded dangerously with dangling cables. The divan base was old which caused the mattress to keep shifting off. I conveyed all these issues in a text, as Claire proved to be an unaccommodating host, starting from the shower incident. During a gig in Chester, I received texts about issues continuing to arise. The following Sunday morning, scaffolding work began at 7:30. Claire accused me of lying until I sent her photos. The contractor confirmed he had advised against renting rooms due to the Sunday morning construction noise. The situation was comical. The contractors handling the situation were pleasant. I even have a recording of Claire's rant, although I won't share the details to respect her privacy. Let just say it was unpleasant and disturbing. In conclusion, I strongly advise against booking this hotel, as it provided an unpleasant and unclean experience, both physically and emotionally.
