Santuario Getsemani Hostel

I've been @ Santuario much longer than planned due to some health issue. So, I had the time to highly appreciate not only the hostel itself, the great vibe and atmosphere, the fantastic beds setup where you have plenty of space (!) plus an unusual total privacy, like you have a mini room inside a room, but especially the people: staff is great and really cares the guest, while sick I had a family like surveillance, especially Stefy "la chica del bar", Kathy (cleaning & kitchen) and Jose (maintenance) never missed supporting me and asking genuinely interested how I was feeling doing their best to help. In a difficult moment, I was in the right place, thanks them! One only thing disturbing me was, the aircon management: ok it was on only evening and night, quite usual, problem was a person feeling cold was enough to shut down the aircon for everyone... and it was hot then... i love freezing, ok, but a correct balance would be the best, suggesting who's cold to wear a t-shirt should work, and others won't sweat ;-)

Nice hostel in Getsemaní área, arrived after 11 pm and was pleasantly surprised, that reception was opened and I was able to do check in. Breakfast is included, had fruit bowl and toasts with butter/jam, if you want to add eggs you have to pay 10000 COP for it. Coffee/tea is self served and you can order juice for extra payment. Sleeping area is big, air conditioning is working over night, you have to bring your own lock. There is a space to put luggage under the bed, what was a bit dusty and dirty and a small shelf near the bed. Hostel offers some activities, but I wasn't able to check them out. Overall good experience

Everything. The worst part was how dirty it was. I'm not sure who is in charge of cleaning, but they were doing the absolute bare minimum. The girls bathroom was full of hair at all times. On the last day, there was a dead cockroach in the room and the cleaner didn't bother with taking it out as she walked by it. The dorm was never cleaned. I saw the same clump of hair stay in the same place the entire 4 days I was there. On top of that, the rooms are next to the street and you can hear absolutely everything. The bunks are NOT sound proof, like at all. And for a social hostel, they have nothing happening there. It truly seems like the establishment is run by a bunch of teenagers. I cannot stress enough how I would never go back there even if I were paid to do so. I could not leave fast enough.

I must give the credit to owner who kept all minor details for this hostel. In my view it's one of the best hostel I have stayed. Large comfy bed, 2 separate lockers for every individual.curtains,plenty of washroom and shower. Kitchen with enough utensils. I must thanks one thin guy in reception. I forgot his name. He was angel to me. Centrally located and beautiful view of fort just opposite of the road. * It would be nicer if you seregate utensils between guests and staffs. The female receptionist doesn't care how guests will cook when she uses every pots in the kitchen. Completely mindless and insensitive.*

We had booked a 4 bed mixed room via Hostelworld. We arrived around 8PM at the hostel and checked in, paid and shown to our room. However the room was a 10 person mixed dorm which was not we paid for and we paid double for the four man. The staff were not helpful and said that 4 bed mixed dorms do not exist and are female only. He insisted that we booked wrong despite showing him the Hostelworld listing. He was rude, laughing and created quite unfriendly atmosphere. He made no effort to rectify the situation or apologise. As a result of this we cancelled the booking and got refunded by the hostel however we have lost money to Hostelworld which we are not happy about. See images of listing. Hopefully the hostel rectifies this ASAP. This is false advertising and hopefully other travellers don’t fall into this trap.

It was literally the best location ever. Not only was it the cheapest accommodation in the area, it was also walking distance to every attraction and tour centers. Every single one of the tours you book will most likely have pick up in Getsemani centro which is a 12 min walk away from the hostel. You are also 14 min walking distance away from the ocean (has rough waves at this sight so I would not recommend swimming in it). It is a 35 min walk (or 10 min drive) to Bocagrande beach which is swimmable. The breakfast was good, but it was the same everyday. It was really good tho. A full bowl of fresh fruit, eggs, toast, Butter and jelly. The bathroom was always clean, the rooms were well air conditioned and spacey. I really liked my own private space for my bed as it has curtains. And the staff were always soooo sweet, welcoming and helpful. I would definitely do it again. And the right across the street there’s a great spot to watch the sunset admist the large river. It’s absolutely gorgeous!! Overall this location is truly a gem.
