The Ugadale Hotel & Cottages

Machrihanish|0.19km from downtown
Stayed in The Ugadale Hotel (cottages) for 4 nights (June 16-20) for the first leg of our buddies golf trip. Cottages were great, very comfortable, wonderful large showers, good beds and cozy living rooms. Breakfast had a good variety of choices with quick service for cooked to order items. Dinner was very good in the Hotel restaurant (first night), but we preferred to eat in the clubhouse for the remainder of our stay because of the beautiful view of Machrihanish Bay with wonderful sunsets. Food in the clubhouse was also very good. The only negative thing about this trip and it's not important, was we did not have access to Sky Sports to watch the US Open in our room. The late night walks along the bay of course were far more interesting as it was light well past 10 pm. Played golf at Machrihanish (2 rounds) Machrihanish Dunes (3 rounds) and Dunaverty (1 round). Three completely different but absolutely wonderful tracks. Machrihanish was dry as a bone due to almost 3 weeks of no rain, but was extremely enjoyable non the less. Great golf course and we had loads of fun, that's what golf is all about (what Mother Nature throws at you) in the company of good friends. Machrihanish Dunes had irrigation on the greens and tees with some spectacular ocean views, undulating fairways and multi level greens. A great walk through the beautiful natural dunes. This was another special golf experience. Lorna and Peter in the proshop were wonderful, accommodating and funny which added to the enjoyment. Decided to play a second round one day and headed down to Dunaverty. Approximately 5000 yd course plays like 6500 yds. First 4 holes quite basic and short with cow fences to keep the cows off the greens. Then the climbs ! As a second round our legs were like jello by the time we finished, but there were some really wonderful holes throughout and the views were spectacular. Wonderful views of Dunaverty Rock, Ireland and even the Ailsa Craig from one point I think, or I may have been dizzy from a climb? The square greens were well irrigated and putted very well. All in all, a great little course and well worth playing. Great time had by all and wonderful hotel and clubhouse staff.

What a lovely hotel!! We arrived late but the owner greeted us and suggested places to eat as they didn’t do dinner. The room was very clean with two single beds which were so very comfortable!! The room was en-suite and had a lovely view of the golf course and the sea. We had drinks in the hotel bar Which was very warm and friendly. The owner was friendly and very knowledgeable about the local area Breakfast was Full Scottish and was delicious and plentiful. I would gladly recommend this hotel to others. The owners are warm, friendly and helpful, and the room very comfortable.
