We stayed at the Fox Inn having been relocated from their sister hotel, the Dog & Patridge, due to a refurbishment taking place. The Fox do not normally allow children, but they made sure they could accommodate us and our 15 year old son at no extra charge. It was very much appreciated and we were not disappointed - the room was gorgeous; delightful in every way, exceptionally clean, and had everything you needed for a comfortable stay. The staff at the Fox were extremely polite and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious too. This really is a charming place to stay. The pub itself is steeped in history and a short walk from the Abbey ruins and Bury St Edmunds Town. Thank you to the Fox for making us so welcome. We will definitely come back soon.

We had the pleasure of spending two nights in room 6 which is the upstairs room, four poster bed, freestanding bath, and everything else you could possibly want. We were away for the weekend celebrating my 50th, and my husband couldn’t of chosen a better location.. When you walked into the inn it was like it hugged you as you entered. Very homely feel. The food was delicious and I’m gutted we are now home.. I one hundred percent, recommend this place to anyone who is looking for something a bit more relaxed and chilled out. There are quite a few shops nearby, but we decided to go to Cambridge for the day shopping which was only half an hours drive. We shall definitely be returning in the future.

We stayed overnight on a horribly wet Sunday in March. We were so pleased to have booked this comfortable, spacious and immaculate room. We stayed in room 6. The staff were very helpful and breakfast was good. The hotel is well placed for the abbey gardens and the historic town centre. Highly recommend.

Disappointing Sunday roast. Had the trio of meats. Beef was not served pink and was very tough. Roast potatoes were bland and only just cooked and definitely neither crispy nor flavoured with rosemary and garlic. The vegetables were similarly disappointing, i couldn’t tell the carrots were maple or roasted and the parsnips were also bland and only just cooked. The Brussels sprouts were rock hard and inedible. There was plenty of gravy to help things along. My friends enjoyed their meals. One of them had roast vegetables that did look nicely roasted. I did let the server know at the end of the meal when she cleared my plate and she said she’d let the chef know, but there was no other acknowledgment, feedback or apology.

Asked in the town centre which was the best pub. The answer came back this one. Just planned to have a Guinness, but after seeing how sensible the menu is with the vegetarian options listed settled for the vegetarian breakfast. Quite pleased with it and served in good time. Fine lunchtime atmosphere and can unreservedly recommend the Fox for a meal and a drink. Five stars. Happy to return if Greater Anglia put on more train carriages and reduce the ticket price.

Met up with a couple of friends for a meal. My steak’s consistency was a lot tougher than my boot soles. I complained to the waitress who promised me a replacement steak. My “replacement “ steak, when it arrived, was the same steak as before, they had just put the whole plate under the grill, I knew this, as the half of grilled tomato I had left on the plate, returned as piece of black charcoal. The “salad” accompanying my steak consisted of water cress, water cress and water cress. I can say in defence of the chef my chips edible as were the 2 onion rings. My wife’s scampi was not scampi but scampi bites or popcorn scampi. The chef decided that she did not want any chips and the salad consisted of water cress, water cress and water cress.

A brilliant stay here and great dinner and breakfast. A warm welcome, nothing was too much trouble. The room was amazing and so luxurious, beautiful big bath, spotless. 10/10 fantastic thank you. We were badly treated at another place nearby and these lovely people restored our faith with everything we needed and saved our weekend!

Brilliant team that works alongside the lovely owners Adam & Nat, they accommodate to all needs and are very happy to help. Very dog friendly and have treats at the ready for their arrival. Lovely experience with all, and their Sunday roasts are one of the best in town! You won’t be disappointed, especially if you’re looking for top notch service with a smile, a good bit of grub, and a decent pint with a four legged friend/ and/ or without one ☺️
