Somerset Hotel

Somerset|0.07km from downtown
I stayed in room 6 Before i could even check into my hotel room, It was discussed and agreed upon that someone would be waiting at the hotel for my late check in. I arrived at 9;15pm, pub was completely locked up and shut.... I rang the 2 numbers on the door went strait to voicemail, my employer rang the number he was given... Went straight to voice mail, the security guard who saw me waiting in the rain freezing cold, called the number he had and still went to voicemail, which left me no other option but to book in somewhere else after i've already organised and paid for that room. Outside lobby area carpet smelt like piss, My room was unclean (cockroaches in bowls and cups that were left for me to 'use', windows have no fly screen... It lets big blowflies in, at night the windows let mozzies in. If you shut the windows you end up really sick like me, and having to go to the chemist to get something to clear out my sinuses from the mould and mouldy smell. Bathroom vanity taps did not stop leaking, dripped all night and day. Timber around vanity was rotted at bottom and wood was stripping, shower head and stem was on the wrong way around so i couldn't adjust it, bed was very uncomfortable and stunk, ii had to spray the entire room with glen 20 and even stripped the bed and flipped the mattress which didn't help at all) after approaching staff and management from the hotel with my concerns, i was told that ”the rooms are cheap so you have to come down to front desk and tell staff when you want linen changed and room cleaned (this was after 6 days) After approaching manager on 7th day she told me, that they only change the sheets every 7 days, not to mention I only had 1 pillow and it smelt like every head on Australia had rubbed on it. I highly advise against staying in particularly room 6, if you have a tent you're better to stay in there.

Best Western Burnie Murchison Lodge

Somerset|0.41km from downtown
First thing you need to know if not familiar with the area is that the Best Western Burnie aka Murchison Lodge is not in Burnie CBD it's in a smaller town adjacent to Burnie called Somerset it has virtually become another suburb of Burnie. So you won't be in a position to take a short walk to Burnie cinema, the shopping centre or beach front dining, Burnie CBD is a short drive away though. BUT you are in a lovely spot opposite the River Cam, the beach is nearby and the shopping area in is Somerset is great, nice new IGA store, restaurants/takeaways, bakers it's all there and a bicycle shop too, so if you're heading down to the west coast mountain bike trails this is very handy. Booked a standard queen bed room which was bright, tidy and average in size the bathroom was a bit dated but everything fully functional. Our room was on the ground floor, although there were other guests I don't think we had anyone staying above us on the first floor so can't comment on any noise issues. If looking on a map you'll see the motel is set back on a side road of a main though road, don't let this put you off booking, slept very well, no road noise disturbance here. Very nicely presented grounds with a garden area and nicely landscaped areas in front of rooms. We were staying during a bit of a cold spell and the room didn't have an air conditioner for some quick heating but there was an electric panel heater on the wall which we kept on low and it took the edge off the rooms coolness. Restaurant on site 'The Jetty” made dining easy even though there are other options in Somerset (see separate review). Staff met during stay very friendly and helpful.

Burnie Ocean View Motel and Caravan Park
3.9/573 Reviews
I stayed here solo for one night for a running event the next morning. The cabin served it purpose but needs a few repairs/upgrades. The heating in the room was shocking. One heater which does not heat the entire cabin up. There was a heater in the bedroom cupboard but it had wires hanging from the top so I was not keen to touch it! The bathroom sliding door doubled as the cupboard door which was a bit odd and it didn't slide very well. Lastly the WIFI was limited to 250 or 500MB. which I was surprised at as the advertisement said ”free WIFI” not ”250MB free WIFI”.

Jones on Wilson Boutique B&B
4.5/511 Reviews
We visited Burnie for 2 nights and stayed at the lovely Jones on Wilson accommodation. We had the studio apartment which was immaculate and stylishly decorated. It is within walking distance of the main town, which has some lovely restaurants. Continental breakfast is included but we didnt need it as we had had our own supplies. Would highly recommend this accommodation and hope to return to north west of tassie soon.
