Prince of Wales Hotel

Brisbane Airport Nundah|1.51km from Eagle Junction Station
I had to move out from the original hotel I stayed due to fully-booked. Since my flight is at 9:00 am, so I thought staying close to the airport would be good since I would not need to wake up early. Searched in Google Map for hotels near the airport and decided to stay at Prince of Wales Hotel mainly because it was reasonably priced with many cafes/eateries nearby. Arrived at the hotel around 6:30pm tired and hungry, but was told that the room booked had already been taken up by mistake. The lady in-charged was quick to offer an upgrade (no more studio room) with free dinner because the room needed time to be cleaned/tidied up. We ended up in a 2-room suites and the dinner was great! But we had to change room the next day after they had vacated the original studio room that I booked. For all the trouble the hotel gave me a 5% refund. Though I experienced some inconveniences, I applaud the way they handled the situation, and I actually felt that they respected their hotel guests. The studio room is quite small with attached toilet & bathroom. Unlike the 2-room suites facing the main road was quite noisy, this room at the back was quieter. The fixtures were aged. All the hotel rooms are on 1st floor with no lift. We were given 2 keys, one for the room and one for the entrance downstairs. We stayed 2 nights and left around 6:00am, just dropped the keys at the box next to the entrance. We pre-ordered Uber and it got here right on time and it took about 10min to get to the airport. Overall I feel that it is a good choice for overnight stay especially for early flight if you don't mind carrying your luggage up/down the stairs and having small size room (Studio).

On the upside, rooms are very clean. Downsides? The mattresses have seen better days - and those days were quite some time ago. The grey decor is not recommended for people grappling with depression. And if you are allocated a room near Kingsford Smith Drive, abandon any idea of sleeping on after 4..45 am (Qld time). ‘Check in’ harks back to the time before the advent of the computer - actually, before the advent of the slide rule. Don’t be in a hurry - or lose your room key. They will bill your card $150 to replace the sort of key you can have cut for $7 at Bunnings. That said, staff are pleasant enough. At around $90 per night, you pretty well get what you pay for. Certainly no more.

Perfect for attending the races and close to dinner facilities. Basic room with comfortable bed tv ensuite microwave desk and fridge. Our fridge wasn't working so they put us in room next door and were very apologetic about it and was no fuse. Thank you for having us. If was a little warmer we would have used the pool and we had undercover parking👍

I was having a late check in, confirming this 2 days prior to overnight stay, and was told by receptionist (who answered the phone in that morning) that I would receive a text/email with details of how to get into the hotel. However this never occurred, and the day of arrival I rang 8 times during office hours (2.30-5pm) to get instructions, all of which were never answered. And on ringing Qantas hotel assistance, I was on hold for 42 mins to them as they also, could not get any reply to phone calls etc to the hotel reception, again all during afternoon office hours before 5pm. Ringing after 5pm got through to the afterhours contact people who told me there was a phone at the hotel door to ring them and they would give me the details on arrival. Which was exactly all that was needed. The information given by the receptionist originally was of no help, and the reception phone not being answered most of the afternoon was extremely poor. The phone in my room was completely dead and not working when I went to book a taxi back to the airport. The aircon was on full bore and couldnt be turned off. But the duvet was thick and warm which at least made it warm enough to sleep. The room was tidy and clean, but given the very poor reception assistance and communication (and not actually answering their phones during the afternoon) I would certainly not recommend this hotel unless you actually arrive during daytime hours when hopefully there MAY be a staff member who could assist you. Either that or wait for the afterhours contracted people who were so much more helpful.

I chose this hotel near the airport because I had to rent a car and fly to Brisbane Airport early in the morning. The hotel is easy to find, the left side of the road. After the arrival, the standard room was not available. We gave us a lot of large bed sheets. The room is small and compact, but it can't be an extra bed. There is no noise when resting. The hotel has convenient parking, and it is a gas station next door. It is also very convenient to refuel in front of the car. Breakfast is 15 knives, we have not booked in time, it should be in the small cafe on the first floor. After walking, I found that the iPad was gone, and the hotel quickly confirmed that it was coming. Now I am looking for Ctrip.com to bring it back. Ctrip service is great!

Normally stay at the Ibis for an airport overnighter, but the rates have gone through the roof, so tried Airport Clayfield Motel for the first time instead. Had a double on the the third floor facing busy Sandgate Road. Friendly host, but mention of the secret luggage lift would have saved lugging bag up the steps. Room was fairly basic (if you compare with the Ibis!) and traffic noise levels not too bad, but guess accommodation to the rear would have been a bit quieter. Did have a very noisy neighbour though. Small, yet attractive pool area out the back. No pickup from airport, but a handy 10 minute drop off minibus service which starts at 6.45am. If you fancy nipping into the CBD there is a handy bus stop bang outside. Overall, adequate for one night.
