This was our first visit to a Days Inn but not our last if Brigend is our yardstick. Elize gave us a warm welcome and to avoid going across to the Service Area for breakfast in the morning we paid £6 each for the Continental breakfast. This was brought to our room on a tray at exactly the ordered time. From a s election of cereals we had chosen Weetabix. For our £6 we had two Weetabix, a third of a pint bottle of fresh milk, a croissant, butter, jam, a small carton of Orange juice and an apple! We thought it was so enjoyable and great value that we reordered for our second morninv. Of course, there was plenty of tea, coffee and sugar in the room. Our room was large with a king size bed. A separate flat sheet was provided, which we prefer to a heavy duvet. The towels were lovely: a hand towel and bath sheet each. These were soft and fluffy. We paid just under £90 for two nights board and can most definitely recommend this budget hotel which to us, offered some 5 star items such as bath sheets and room service breakfast!

We were a bit perturbed by some of the booking websites saying that during Covid, Hazelwood offered no bedding, towels or housekeeping service. This didn’t seem right, so we phoned and spoke to the owner, Tony. Tony was amazed by their claims and said that of course there would be bedding & towels provided and there WOULD be a daily housekeeping service (where we’d stayed a few weeks before there wasn’t which is why we checked) , as well as a cooked or continental breakfast served every morning should we want it. So we booked (direct with Hazelwood, not through a booking site). I’m glad we did. There was ample car parking just outside the front door and Tony was very welcoming when we arrived. The room (we chose a Superior room) was large enough. It had openable windows, hanging space, a large dresser, flat screen TV, kettle etc and a king size bed. Although the pillows were a bit thin for me (and we all know how individual pillows can be!) the bed was firm and comfortable. The en-suite was stocked as you’d expect and the shower was just fine – sometimes water pressure is an issue but not here. Towels were white and fluffy. The continental breakfast looked lovely but we opted for the full Welsh breakfast every morning. Well cooked eggs (I like mine poached with runny yolks), sausages, beans, tomato and bacon - as much toast as we could eat, grapefruit juice and plenty of hot coffee. Just what we wanted to start our day. Tony was on reception whenever we went past and he offered us local maps to borrow and told us of places to visit in line with our interests (ruined castles, nature reserves and beaches) – we’d not have come across Rest Bay without his advice. The other staff we saw were all very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay.
