The added gas into my room. That’s right, real gas. I was speaking, and the old lady approached my room to ask me to keep my voice down. Instead though, she said ‘shut up’. I asked nonetheless with a calm voice, what is the smell, she responded ‘wind’. I asked again, she responded the same. I saw the word smell and thought to myself, smell(see ta ill) and (see ta AI). I then asked again, what is the smell, and she responded ‘it’s in your head’. They set up a gas valve into the room that was intentionally being leaked through the ceiling, and was causing dizziness. The police station for the town is 300 metres away. Though the police are also AI controlled, so no point in seeking assistance from them. They’d probably respond the same way. There were many other situations. This seemed important to write. Expensive, hospitality zero, gassed up rooms, with bad food. They cheated on price, and also were ‘working’ on the bathroom door at night time next to my room, amongst other things. Catastrophic. I experience many things wonders around the world, this was a one of a kind, being gassed up 1 metre away from my head. They truly are a sickening house hold. I could say more, choose not to.

Property and staff were pleasant. Close to the ocean and a river. Very comfortable.

STAY AWAY IT IS A SCAM !!! To summarise the worst experience we had so far in Iceland. 1. Although they had photos of a kitchen in Booking they told us we cannot use the kitchen and that we have to use their “restaurant”. One of our friends has many allergies and food restrictions. We asked them if they can provide a gluten free and vegan meal and they said they can give us a hamburger which of course does not meet any of the criteria’s. We asked them if we can cook the food we bought and they refused saying that the kitchen is only for the restaurant (part of the scam) 2. When we reached to the room we were met with a very intense smell of mold and dust. The room was advertised as allergy free on Booking. Of course we all started coughing. On top our friend has many allergies which were triggered by the dust in the room. We addressed this to the owner and they were very rude telling us to go to a hotel if we want better conditions and that if the blankets are made of synthetic they can call the room allergy free. Please check the number of bad reviews they have received about this on Google. The owner refused to refund us the money although we did not stay and we left within half an hour (time needed to book another accommodation). We filed a complaint to Booking and if they will not return us the money we will sue them for the drama they brought to our lives. 3. After telling we will leave she took the key went to the room and came back saying that we brought the dust with us. I could not believe she even tried to go that way. Also was repeating that we were trying to scam them although they already have our money and we were the ones scammed. PLEASE MAKE YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND NEVER EVEN CONSIDER THIS PLACE FOR RESTAURANT OR AS A GUESTHOUSE.

Awful experience. Super rude hosts. ..misleading informations about the property.. the place is full of dust and mold and not suitable for people with allergies. No use of kitchen allowed, so that you are basically forced to buy food from them. No vegan/ gluten-free options .. unpleasant host kicked us out of the property after we confronted her..

Reviews for Guesthouse Kiljan are all over the place, so it was with some trepidation that we arrived there. It’s an older house and not much to look at from the outside but it turned out to be a most pleasant surprise. Renovations inside include our pleasantly decorated room and shared bathroom located just a few steps away. Everything is clean and comfortable, the owners gracious and helpful. Coffee, tea and cookies are available for guests. Meals are available in the in-house restaurant. We had delicious bowls of soup pm and breakfast (included with the room) the following morning - the best breakfast we’ve had while traveling around Iceland!

I've been with my friends. An experience not to be repeated. Flies everywhere and a terrible fishy smell in the kitchen and dirty windows. If you want to have a sleepless night it's perfect. The worst Place in all of Island.

I give only one star because i can’t give zero. Worst guesthouse of my trip in Iceland! When we arrived in the guesthouse, there was a disgusting fishy smell. But that’s not the worst thing: in every room there were lots of flies. We brought a spray to kill them, but that wasn’t enough. Then, the owner (that was not in town) gave us other rooms that was used and dirty. We agreed a refund at the phone, but then they said that we didn’t deserve it because we slept anyway (The alternative was sleep in the car). I absolutely do not recommend it.

You must be joking?! I can only think there must be other, better rooms they are keeping from me. No way anyone could review this well. The entrance to the hotel is to one side and not clearly marked. It is unlit when arriving back at night and up some steep steps. The place smells of rancid frying. It’s none too clean in the communal areas and the sheet on my bed is so threadbare you can see the mattress through it. There is one small, thin and lumpy pillow. We have just come from a Guesthouse that charged exactly the same price. We had a TV in the room, private bathroom and breakfast included. You will get none of that here. What are they thinking? I’m trying to think of positives. The room itself was clean. The view of the sea is good from our room if you lift your eyes and ignore the overgrown garden. There are rubbish bags piled up outside by the guests outside seating area. The lady who let us in is lovely and eager to please. I don’t know if she is the manager of this unfortunate place, if she is the owner I’d say it needs serious money spending to bring it up to date. I think it would be acceptable as a place to lay your head for one night if it were half the price. The standard here is simply not competitive with any other places we stayed during this trip to Iceland in a similar price range.
