Garner Hotel BERLIN - GENDARMENMARKT by IHG

Urgently needs renovation!!! Dirty carpets, some broken tiles in the bathroom, and you really don't want to see the bedding under the covers. The staff, however, are very friendly 🌸

The hotel room was a bit small, but the location was excellent, with many attractions, parks, and dining/shopping options nearby. The breakfast was also a highlight; the restaurant's second floor had a cozy and unique decor.

The hotel's location is excellent, right next to a metro station in the city center and very close to Checkpoint Charlie. However, the breakfast selection is quite limited with not much to choose from. On the upside, the price is not high, so it offers decent value for money.

3-day stay. * Soap and shower gel were missing – despite multiple requests, I had to pick them up myself at the front desk. * The room was not cleaned even once during my entire stay. * Towels were only changed after several requests. * Unprofessional staff at the reception and in housekeeping. * Communication was sometimes difficult – neither in German nor in English. * The manager was very dedicated, helpful, and professional. His support is worth highlighting, but unfortunately, it couldn't compensate for the overall unprofessional impression left by the rest of the staff.

The cleaning was very poor. Even after notifying the front desk, it didn't improve. We stayed for three nights, and no soap or tissues were refilled in the bathroom. Room service only arrived sometime in the afternoon and unfortunately understood neither German nor English. The toilet flush was defective/rarely worked, the safe couldn't be used, and overall the room felt dirty. There were stains on the carpet and in the bathroom that were not cleaned throughout our entire stay. We definitely will not book this hotel again.

The room wasn't huge, but it was really clean and tidy. The guy at the front desk was super friendly and patiently answered all our questions. Since our English wasn't great, they even wrote things down for us to explain step-by-step. It was a lovely touch to find herbal tea and biscuits when we entered. The hotel's location is also excellent, with bus and subway stops right outside. The Berlin Cathedral and Brandenburg Gate are both within walking distance. The breakfast was pretty standard, just like most hotel breakfasts. Plus, having an on-site parking lot was really convenient for our self-drive trip.
