I wholeheartedly recommend the Gubei Water Town William Hotel, it's truly the best resort hotel experience I've ever had! The hotel's location is superb, right in the heart of the water town, within walking distance to Water Street and Sun-Moon Island Plaza. Most room types feature floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies, offering direct views of the Simatai Great Wall as soon as you open them. In the evening, the water town's night lights are dazzling, and the courtyard pool is perfect for stunning photos. The ambiance is absolutely top-notch. The stay was incredibly comfortable. The room was spacious and clean, elegantly decorated, and the bedding was soft and skin-friendly, making for a wonderfully peaceful rest. The dining was also impeccable. Whether it was breakfast or the restaurant dishes, the flavors were rich and varied, ingredients were fresh, and both Chinese and Western options were available. I was very satisfied with the food. What truly touched me and deserves special praise is the service – thoughtful and warm, making me feel cared for throughout my stay. This time, I was traveling with my child, who unfortunately twisted their ankle. In a panic, I contacted the hotel. The staff immediately arranged a vehicle, and the hotel manager personally accompanied us, escorting us all the way to the medical office for examination and care. They were incredibly responsible and attentive, instantly putting me at ease. Upon checking out the next day, the hotel even thoughtfully packed breakfast for us, paying attention to every little detail. From check-in to check-out, the service was meticulous, considerate, warm, and responsible. I stayed comfortably, ate with peace of mind, and the service was beyond reproach. I genuinely recommend this hotel to families and anyone looking for a resort stay. I will definitely choose this place again when I visit Gubei Water Town next time!

Almost everything was great, it's a shame they spoke very little English.

This hotel is located inside Gubei Water Town. It has a Western restaurant on the first floor, and their huge burger set is enough for a whole family. The hotel facilities are excellent, and there's a shuttle bus right outside. The scenery is also beautiful. Highly recommended!

This hotel is very close to Sun and Moon Island, which is the center of the town, and there are restaurants belonging to the hotel downstairs. The scenery nearby is also great, making it convenient to go anywhere. The hotel staff are very nice. We had to wait a bit for our room during check-in, but that's understandable since it was during the Chinese New Year period. The breakfast is quite good compared to other hotels of the same caliber in Gubei. My parents were quite satisfied with this hotel, and we'll definitely consider staying here again on our next holiday to Gubei.

Staying at the William Edgar Hotel in Gubei Water Town was an absolute delight! ✨ I originally booked a standard room, but upon arrival, the hotel upgraded me for free to a luxury balcony king room, which was valued at over 2700. It was incredibly spacious and even had a huge bathtub – perfect for a relaxing soak. But the real highlight was the night view from the balcony; the entire Gubei Water Town lit up beautifully, and in the distance, the lights of Simatai Great Wall wound through the hills. The gentle evening breeze just perfected the atmosphere. From check-in to throughout my stay, the staff were incredibly warm, attentive, and always willing to help with anything I needed. The hotel facilities were also excellent, with hot springs, a front desk, and luggage storage all conveniently available, meeting all my travel needs. My time in Gubei Water Town was made even more enjoyable and memorable thanks to this hotel. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the water town; the experience truly exceeded expectations!

A luxury boutique hotel in Gubei Watertown - highly recommended! Hotel:  A themed hotel conveniently located in the heart of Gubei Watertown. The hotel is tastefully decorated with all the amenities you’d expect of a 5-star hotel and offers much more.  The rooms are HUGE, clean, and well equipped.  Our reservation was for two rooms (Room #s 220 and 221):  a Deluxe Balcony Room A with a king bed (76 sq meter with a stunning view of the Great Wall) and Superior Twin Room A with balcony (55 sq meter with a view of the hotel courtyard).   We were assigned rooms next to each other so we could be close to our elderly parents.   Our rooms were separately packaged with complimentary hot spring entrance tickets, Chinese/Western set meal (tried the Chinese meal at the Flavor Restaurant 望景楼 which was excellent-see photos), boat rides, and Simatai Great Wall tour tickets with round trip cable car rides.  We throughly enjoyed our time in Gubei Watertown and this hotel definitely made our stay special. Service:  Absolutely the best!  From front desk reception (all the young ladies and 张建成), housekeeping, to the hotel concierge; everyone was helpful, informative, professional, and warm. A special shout out to Jeff (尚明杰), without whom we would not be able to reserve a vehicle to Chengde after our stay.  Jeff spent hours working with our old phone that just did not communicate with the Chinese payment system, to a point he even used his personal phone to make sure our transportation was confirmed. During our 3-day stay, we received top notch service and we are truly grateful to every staff member at the hotel for taking great care of us. We absolutely loved the breakfast and the hotel’s Chinese restaurant is also highly recommended. Gubei Watertown is beautiful late October for its autumn foliage.  Weather was nice, just perfect for walking and exploring by foot.  We couldn’t have chosen a more perfect place to stay for our visit than the William Edgar Hotel.

The entire hotel boasts a rich European style, and the rooms are very large and spacious. The decor is in an elegant beige and off-white color scheme. Facilities: Complete and well-equipped. Cleanliness: Very clean and tidy, and although there's a balcony, it doesn't attract many mosquitoes. Environment: Serene and quiet. Service: The front desk staff are very welcoming, and all the service facilities in the water town are readily available. They even offer luggage transfer, so we didn't miss out on exploring while our bags were being taken care of.

The William Edgar Hotel in Gubei Water Town is a uniquely themed resort that has both commendable aspects and areas for improvement. Its location is excellent, nestled in the Wolongbao Folk Culture Zone at the foot of the Simatai Great Wall, adjacent to Riyue Island Plaza and Yinghua Bridge. There are numerous attractions nearby, with Simatai Great Wall and the hilltop church within walking distance. The hotel's design is ingenious, skillfully blending Western aesthetics with the historical heritage of the Great Wall, and it has received multiple tourism design awards. The facilities are also quite comprehensive, featuring a German bar, banquet hall, multi-functional meeting rooms, and an outdoor pool. In terms of service, the hotel offers 24-hour shuttle transfers, luggage services, and the front desk staff are warm and attentive. Regarding rooms, the hotel boasts 50 spacious rooms in a simple European style, equipped with panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, a mini-bar, and other amenities. The room type I stayed in this time also had a private scenic balcony, offering views of the majestic Great Wall and the illuminated water town at night, and you could even watch the drone show directly from there. However, the hotel does have some drawbacks. The cleanliness was just average, and the room facilities were a bit dated, with the air conditioning making noise. As for dining, the breakfast selection was somewhat limited, and the service in the main restaurant was very mediocre, with few dishes available.

Terrible, doesn't deserve to be called a hotel. After a shower, the whole bathroom was flooded. The facilities are incredibly outdated, haven't been renovated since it was built, feeling run-down and absolutely not worth the 2000+ RMB per night price. However, all hotels in the water town are like this, and inns are even worse. They make money regardless, so there's no need to improve quality to keep business good.

The room was spacious with strategic location. They provide luggage transport service which is convenient for tourists. Our room even has balcony! P/s: the view is scenic ^_^

Centrally located in Gubei Water Town, it offers great convenience. The service was excellent, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The lake view of the water town from the balcony was truly stunning. I would definitely choose to stay here again next time.

Our stay was shifted to Wtown hotel inside scenic area as this hotel was under renovation. Beautiful hotel with Beautiful view. It hasTraditional details in paintings and esthetics but very modern too.. Beautiful room and beautiful area. Staff was helpful as we are vegetarians. Limited food options for vegetarians but people are very good. The restaurant diagonal to the hotel arranged vegetarian hot pot for us. Thank you.
