This is the first negative review I have ever written in my life, but my experience at Beachcomber Resort was so disappointing that I feel obligated to warn other travelers.
We arrived at our room only to discover that there was no electricity and no running water. The staff member who escorted us to the room clearly noticed the situation but simply pretended everything was normal and walked away. We had to return to reception ourselves to report a problem that should never have existed in the first place.
Things only got worse from there. We found cockroaches in the room and around the kitchen area, which forced us to change rooms at 11 PM. After a long day of travel, having to pack up and move rooms late at night because of a hygiene issue was completely unacceptable and caused significant inconvenience.
The food situation felt like a trap. We had booked a package with breakfast included, yet we were effectively forced into paying for a fixed-price meal plan anyway. The quality of the food was shockingly poor. The hamburger and chicken wings were so bad that one entire meal ended up in the trash. Not once did any member of staff ask whether the food was satisfactory. We asked for water twice and were ignored both times. In the end, I had to get up and find someone myself just to receive water—which, of course, we still had to pay for.
The whole system feels designed to extract money from guests. Either you pay for full board upfront, or you arrive on the island and quickly realize you have little choice but to pay for expensive meals anyway.
To reach our room, we had to walk directly through the staff accommodation area, with bathrooms and living spaces fully exposed. Instead of feeling like we were staying at a tropical island resort, it felt like walking through a temporary camp. This was certainly not the experience that was advertised.
After all of these issues, we informed management that we would be leaving the resort two days early because we simply did not want to stay another minute. Despite the lack of basic services, the hygiene concerns, the terrible food, and the overall experience, not a single dollar was refunded for the two unused nights.
What is most disappointing is not just the poor quality of the facilities, but the complete lack of accountability. No genuine apology, no meaningful attempt to make things right, and absolutely no concern for guest satisfaction.
I have attached photos showing insects crawling around the kitchen and food service area during operating hours. The pictures speak for themselves. The level of hygiene we witnessed was shocking and completely unacceptable for any hospitality establishment, let alone one charging resort prices.
Beachcomber Resort was, without question, one of the worst hospitality experiences I have ever had. Save your money, save your time, and stay somewhere else. There are far better places in Fiji than this overpriced, poorly managed, and deeply disappointing resort.
