Grand Mercure Batam Centre (Opening May 2025)

New hotel but many rooms for improvement. Pillow case is stained upon check-in. Door lock malfunction on second day and they took quite a long time to fix it, with my room left opened. There’s loud drilling on the second floor due to renovation still ongoing. My baby sneezed many times at the lobby. There’s no hair conditioner. Phone also cannot work to call other rooms, reception and housekeeping. Bathrobe is smelly. Room facing a construction site. Unfortunately both side of the hotel rooms facing construction. Site. Location is quiet though which is good for sleep. Room level is by card access only so better to get same level if you book a few rooms. Car park security guards to ensure safety. Breakfast is good with a wide selection of food. Porridge is good and noodle soup. Staffs are friendly and helpful.

Booked a 3D2N stay, Friday through Sunday, Superior Room City View, with breakfast for 2. Room and bathroom size is generous. Clean and new. Windows and door sound barriers not so good. Traffic noises quite disruptive middle of nights. Human noises along corridor, especially near lifts quite disturbing. Breakfast range was generous though almost similar for two days. Layouts have rooms for improvement, some parts not very users friendly. Drivers required to make a round to get to the main entrance.

I was excited to try this newly opened hotel and I was pleasantly surprised. Although there was a delay with the check-in (understandable cos it’s a weekend), from then on.. it was near perfect! First impression from the hotel staff were excellent. Even though it was a busy weekend, they remained professional and were able to attend to the needs of the guests. As for the rooms, it’s tastefully designed and the bed will assure you will have a good nights rest. As for amenities, they provided everything I needed.. A negative point would be the lackluster wifi, especially during the night and the hotel phone had issues. (May I suggest using a hotel WhatsApp system by scanning a QR code for essential engagement with guests, such as requesting for Ice, making spa arrangements etc.) I believe it has been implemented for in-room dining. As for the surroundings, it’s a 5 mins drive from Batam Centre Ferry Terminal, walking distance to One Batam Mall and the essential street food, Indomart and ATM just across the road making it really convenient. Overall, knowing that it’s still less than a month’s old, it has exceeded all my expectations and I hope to return soon.
