A perfect hotel, owned and operated by the cavendish family. The food is very good, Michelin in 2020, and the ingredients are supplied by their own channels. The breakfast is rich. It is a 30-minute walk to Chatsworth House, if you are not afraid of the wind in this season. There are lawns and 🐑 all the way. If you have seen "Pride and Prejudice", this is a must-visit place.

A fabulous location on the boarders of Chatsworth, recently renovated with a homely decor and eclectic mix of art and furnishings. Unfortunately our evening was spoilt by a rushed service from both sommelier who although knowledgeable was too busy to engage. The waitress argumentative and cold when told about a dish that arrived when my wife had finished her meal. No apology . We were celebrating coming back to the uk after years as expats as well as our anniversary of which no mention. However the food is perfectly cooked the menu focused and the wine cellar a good spectrum for all tastes. We give the benefit of the doubt but would ask for the service to be at the right level and ensure customers paid attention to, we left in silence no one to bid farewell

Stay at the recently refurbished Cavendish Hotel, Baslow! We have just enjoyed a stay at this fabulously comfortable hotel where public rooms offer stunning views of the Parkland and where private rooms are supremely comfortable. A very congenial atmosphere is created by the professionalism and warmth of the staff, who will go 'the extra mile' for you. ( I tested this out by leaving an item behind !) After a day spent enjoying the joys of Chatsworth, you'll be ready to relax in either of the restaurants and enjoy choosing from a variety of local produce, estate lamb or venison, and so much more. Later, there's always someone on hand to serve snacks, tea, coffee, or something a little stronger, before you slip away for a snooze!

Met some friends for coffee on Sunday, first impression was wow. The dim lighting and cosy furniture, the waitress moved us to some sofas where we could be more comfortable. Unfortunately that is where the positives end as the waiter had such contempt for us it was palpable. We were dressed for walking (but not muddy or wet as straight out of the car) and I can only assume that he thought we were inferior as he treated the couple of the next table completely differently! I am always courteous and polite and I expect to be treated the same, my money is as good as everyone else's. I've always wanted to stay here but that has totally put me off.

I went today with my mum hoping that they provide for guests who are not residents just wanted a coffee. I rang up and they said yes no problem. Mum is in a wheelchair v wheelchair friendly and the reception lady was very helpful and lovely . Yes it is a bit pricey for a coffee £5.20 but really worth it due the ambience and service . Was lovely to go somewhere where the guests was made to feel so very comfortable and nothing was too much trouble . The young lady waitresses was very sociable and amenable and we decided to stay for Sunday lunch a bit out of our usual price range bit the lovely setting and spectacular views and the service we received was well worth the money . We willl definitely be back again it was lovely and that was down to the staff so thankyou x

My daughter booked dinner, b and b as a treat for my birthday. We stayed on the 27th and everything was perfect. Check in was effortless. We were delighted with our room and dinner was excellent. We had scallop and oysters for starters, and monkfish for mains. Service was attentive but not overbearing and breakfast again was perfect. Anastasia was kind and helpful at dinner, as was another young man who served us. I would stay again in a heartbeat. One of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in.

Carefully read the reviews for the Cavendish Hotel, Baslow, including this one. Skimming reviews will be worth your time. As experienced, respectful mid-life travelers, we are grateful for any opportunity to do something special. I never write reviews, positive nor negative, because who has time? I'm writing this for YOU - who are considering a stay here. Cons • Understand that the front receptionist is downright miserable, condescending, arrogant. This intensifies the longer you remain at the hotel. The front desk staff is vital to the very small entrance. There is no one else to ask for the most basic information. • First, we thought she was having a bad day. By day two, we were perplexed how she is employed at Cavendish of all places. • We thought she merely loathed Americans (and be clear, she does) until we saw her unwelcoming behavior toward fellow Englishmen. Read the other reviews about how she “singlehandedly ruined” a wedding anniversary and the other comments. She will affect your entire stay. • Steve Daly – Resident Manager – you know very well who all the reviews are referring to at your front desk. The two young girls are fine. • When on vacation from the U.S. to the U.K., it’s a big deal. We again chose The Cavendish because we needed rest and quiet and so looked forward to exploring the acres. Hands down, of all the hotels in four countries over the years, this was the worst, intentionally poor treatment. It took effort to make us – and other patrons – feel as though your mere presence was an imposition. • Steve Daly – Resident Manager: If you don’t want Americans and your staff is ignorant to the locals, who exactly are you seeking to service??? • The wait staff receives orders and brings the food. Offers zero help with menu and paying the bills, charging to the room, etc. They disappear after food is left at the table. Literally an hour later, we had to walk to someone to ask for water and to close the check. The same was true for the tables hosting non-Americans. • After touring The Chatsworth House, we wanted a moment to rest with a drink and snack. At day two, we asked about having tea and scones in the lounge and said receptionist pointed, without verbally responding. • Even the man who walked us to our room and opened it was generally annoyed. • The handsome letter waiting for guests on the desk in your room will frequently reference the words “happy to assist", "be most happy", etc.. Be crystal clear: this hotel does not treat people with basic manners, and most certainly are unhappy offering the most simple information. Dear Devonshire Hotels: Send someone to your Baslow site. Replace most of your staff because their stunning arrogance in the “hospitality” industry cannot be corrected. These people are much too comfortable to improve their behavior. Whilst visiting the garden room restaurant yesterday with my mum & sister for my mums birthday, unfortunately I have to say I was overall disappointed, after ordering our food we waited for approx 45, after initially being told our table wasn’t ready, my mum & sister enjoyed their main course, chicken Caesar salad & ravioli, all I can say about my cheese sandwich is that I could have had a tastier and better presented one from M&S meal deal, then waiting at least 30/40 mins for the dessert, again my mother & sister where happy, I however ordered the seasonal crumble that alone was fine though dry as the vanilla custard was runny & lumpy so inedible , another long 30+ mins for a Luke warm coffee. Very disappointed sorry I didn’t send these items back though I didn’t want to spoil my mothers birthday treat.
