Ibis Styles Basel City

The front desk staff were really friendly. The room was a bit small, but quite clean. However, the air conditioning wasn't working properly and didn't blow cold air. After I brought it up, they proactively moved me to another room, but it still wasn't very cool. I get the feeling the hotel might be limiting the temperature for environmental reasons or something similar…

The emotional attitude of the lady at the front desk was baffling. When I wanted to order a taxi during check-out in the morning, there was no one at the front desk, nor was there a bell. So I called out "hello" a few times. The young lady came out from the adjacent room. "Why are you yelling 'hello'... I am busy... Do you think I should be here (at the front desk) all the time with a smile?" she ranted, complete with an expressive display. What was that all about? I had planned to store my luggage at the hotel, but decided against it. I quickly grabbed my bags and left.

Not bad. It's very close to Basel Airport, the price is great, and transportation nearby is very convenient.

The room was decent and offered good value for the price, especially the 1.6-meter bed which is rare at this price point. On the first day, there was a slight perfume smell in the room which I personally wasn't a fan of, but it dissipated quickly after turning on the air conditioning. As for breakfast, by Swiss standards, it was quite good. The serving hours were long enough that even late risers could still enjoy it. After booking, the email confirmation was almost instantaneous. We arrived in the early hours of the morning, but thankfully the front desk is 24-hour, so we were able to check in smoothly even in the middle of the night, which was a huge plus. The cleanliness was impeccable; the whole place was very tidy. The complimentary Basel Card was incredibly useful and saved us a lot on public transport.

This is my top choice for a hotel when I'm on a business trip to Basel.
