Hotel El Palace Barcelona

Barcelona|2.36km from Clot Rail Station
We stayed 7 nights in this historic hotel and celebrated a special occasion during our trip. The hotel is truly beautiful & elegantly decorated, however the service levels were inconsistent and sorely disappointing for a hotel of this standard & price. Also, there was unfortunately no special factor that made this hotel memorable. Rooms - we booked a classic double room for 3 people & got upgraded to a deluxe room on a high floor. While I appreciated the upgrade and the room decor was beautiful, the bathroom (while spacious) was in visible need of refurbishment. The paint was badly peeling in certain parts, the closet doorknob came off on our third day, the glass shower door wouldn't close fully so the bathroom got wet during a shower. I'm not expecting a newly renovated room but for the price, the room should at least be in good working condition. Housekeeping - was very inconsistent and there was a severe lack of attention to detail. Some examples: - Upon check in, the room curtain was unhooked from the first hook and messily hanging - it took 3 days for housekeeping to finally notice & fix this. - For the entirety of our stay, all room amenities were provided for 2 (not 3) people despite us having booked & paid for 3 people. - Used wine glasses & water mugs were not washed for several days until we called housekeeping to do so. - On several days, I came back to my luggage having been moved haphazardly (I think they were trying to make up the extra bed) and not put back in its place. - Turn down service was done beautifully on some days and not at all on other days. Rooftop terrace - was a gorgeous place to dine, food was excellent and the service was lovely. We felt very welcome here and it was a real treat dining here! Definitely try the rooftop terrace at least once! Front desk, concierge and bellman were excellent. The concierge was helpful with dining recommendations and guest relations gave us a cake for the special occasion we were celebrating. The bellman was attentive to get us taxis & always greeted us with a smile. Breakfast - is definitely worth a try! The breakfast room is beautiful and the drawing room leading to it is so regal & gorgeous. Generous spread of food & service was warm as well. Amar - dined here & paid over 400 euros but it was a shockingly disappointing experience. The bread, starters, petit fours & decor were wonderful - but the 200 euros of seafood we ordered was not fresh at all and the service was disinterested & careless. We were abit shocked at how bad it was for a Michelin restaurant. Bluesman cocktail bar - did not try. There's a 50 euro per pax minimum spend but perhaps this could be waived for hotel guests who are already paying a lot for a room. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but felt greatly let down by the service standards at this otherwise lovely hotel. Unfortunately, I highly doubt I'd return here again but sincerely hope the hotel improves its service standards to match its elega

This hotel is a great find even though not in the city centre. The hop on hop off bus (Glories stop) is nearby and one can get the tickets at the reception. We managed to sneak into the rooftop terrace and the sunset view overlooking the Glories tower is amazing. We also appreciate the one time complimentary spa at their sister's hotel Olympic Villa n Suites which is really nice, but you have to still pay 2 euro per towel. What is a letdown is the housekeeping and the lack of complimentary water. The housekeeper will just put everything on the floor while cleaning and never put it back to its original place. Also, the hotel water policy is somewhat unfriendly - only a pack of water for the first night and that's it! when we call to get more water, they ask us to purchase from the bar. This is in contrary to their sister hotel Olympic Villa (where our friends stay) where the hotel provides water dispenser. I certainly hope the hotel will do this and not to inconvenience it's guests to purchase water. Kettle is provided in the room but then there are mineral deposits from the tap water. It would have give it 5 star rating if not for the stingy water policy. Please improve.

Nice apart from the drug dealers and complete lack of security. This is a really beautiful hotel in terms of interior design and the facilities are pretty good. The roof top pool bar is absolutely amazing and a beautiful place to sit and have drinks, with fantastically friendly staff, however the pool is quite dirty and needs a good clean. Stopping people having drinks around the pool isn’t the solution the silly inverted showers which shoot up water don’t help as no one knows they are there and they are completely inadequate and no one uses them. We reported the Ice machine on the 8th floor not working when we arrived and was told it would be sorted. We left 3 days later and it was still not working. The location of the hotel isn’t bad, as it’s pretty central but you almost certainly will need to use taxis to get to anywhere you want to go. The worst part of the hotel is the clientele. During our stay there was a good of lads from France and UK holidaying at the hotel who openly spoke about being drug dealers. It created a bit of a strained atmosphere. On top of this, on two occasions whilst relaxing at the roof top bar some young scallys got up to the roof top pool and were about to cause trouble. One even had a balaclava on behaving erratically. It’s not hard to get in, you can just walk past reception and get in a lift with someone else. On another occasion, when leaving, a guy who looked like he was up to no good came through reception with about 5 or 6 luggage cases. The guy on reception went after him asking for his room number but he refused to give it and played dumb just getting into a car and driving off. If they had proper security they could have intervened and provided a presence needed at this hotel. I still really like this hotel and am glad we stayed here as we did still enjoy it but the management need to get their act together before a more serious incident happens.

The strange thing is that the check-in is taking us to a hotel next door, saying that our order is that hotel. Overall, the experience is ok, that is, the bathroom is relatively small, the toilet is sitting in front of the sink is blocked, very uncomfortable, the sink is too big, no need. Not far from the subway, it is acceptable, the location is far from the city center, slightly deserted

Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights at the end of May. The room was quite small, but adequate for a few days, clean and the bed was very comfortable.. Overlooked the pool area and apartments. Had a fridge and safe. The reception staff were always friendly and helpful and advised us where to catch a bus or where the nearest Metro station was. The stop Clot , line 1, was nearest to the hotel and lead into the centre of Barcelona. The breakfasts were very good, Omelettes & eggs, bacon, sausage etc were cooked fresh to order. Cereals, meats, bread, pastries, fruit, juices etc were on the buffet and were constantly refilled. Restaurants and bars were within easy walking distance, as was the Torre Glories (like the London gherkin). Sagrada Familia was about 15 minutes walk. the beach was about 35 minutes walk (or catch the V25 bus) Overall a lovely Bank holiday break.

I visited as part of a hen party and we stayed for 3 nights. We were spread around the hotel which was not an issue. Rooms were a mix of two bed and three bed. Rooms were good sized with comfortable beds. Location was good and we were able to get to our choice of venues easily by either booking a taxi or flagging one down. We were a bit disappointed that reception staff were unable to help with booking taxis but it was easy enough to do ourselves. One negative was that there was a bag of rubbish in my room when I arrived. It was obviously from the emptying of the bins and the cleaner had forgotten to take it out but it contained food and was on the sofa so not good to be met with. I did not eat in this hotel. There are eating places and shops nearby and vending machines in the foyer for that late night snack. I would stay in this hotel again.

Stayed here with my Mum for the week, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the whole stay. We dropped our bags off before check in time and was advised whilst the room wasn't ready, should it be before 3pm then we were welcome to go back. We were given maps and advice for first timers to Barcelona about points of interest which was greatly appreciated. The hotel is in a great location and close to Clot metro station for easy access to the city. Depending on how first you walk, it's about 20-30 mins to Sagrada Familia with lots of cafes and restaurants along the way. You can also catch the metro to Sagrada Familia as well. Our room was clean and well appointed for our stay, and was also very quiet! Pillows were softer than I would have liked (I'm fussy though) but the bed was comfy. We had breakfast in the morning which was a buffet style and a good selection to get started for the day. There is also a terrace to sit out on from the breakfast room, as long as it's not still dark when you get up. Breakfast is from 7.30-10.30. Free WiFi without having the hassle of a password was also much appreciated! Highly recommend this hotel and will certainly be heading back in the future.
