Pro: Good location and comfortable beds. Not a lot of people in the hotel.
Improvements: Found some hairs of previous guests in the bed. And there was no possibility for one hour later check out.

SSlo-LjuStephanie greeted us at check in, she noticed there were 4 of us and immediately offered an upgrade to a 2-queen top floor suite. She was friendly, welcoming and very nice. Being an IHG Spire member I am often upgraded to suites, however this suite must have been one of the most spacious in any HIE I have ever stayed at. Everything was clean and in great shape, which is no wonder since the hotel was completely renovated two years ago. We went to refresh in the pool, which was being cleaned by the maintenance gentleman. He later brought pool towels and was friendly and curteous, too. Breakfast in the morning was actually ready before posted time, the vast majority of the guests that night were workers, who obviously required an early start. Being an older property in original design meant the breakfast room was somewhat small and got full immediately. Luckily, there was additional (multi-purpose) seating available in the lobby just outside breakfast room. All in all a great stay, I will gladly visit again.
GGuest UserThe hotel only allows you to enter from the main doors after you swipe your room key. You can exit through the side doors, but cannot re-enter there. There is one run-down elevator that buzzes and shakes, truly terrifying. We were not allowed to use our Chime debit card for incidentals, the front desk person insisted on having a credit card for the $20 charge that is definitely not doing anything to help deter less qualified bookings as the place is filled with interesting characters in and around the property. The accommodations we requested via our Marriott Bonvoy app were confirmed but never fulfilled. The walls are thin so you can hear people talking and coughing next door and in the hallways, you can also hear a ton of freeway traffic and people screaming in the pool. There are no do-not-disturb signs, leading to people accidentally trying to enter our room and allows the staff to enter and knock at anytime. There was only one plug-in outlet for charging on one side of the bed, no other outlets near the bed. The alarm clocks are so old that they only charge iPhone models 3 and lower. There hasn’t been a phone you can dock on there since 2009. The television is ancient with a rather wonky sound and picture quality. The air conditioning turned off multiple times during the night causing us to wake up stifling warm and unable to sleep. They gave us barely any toilet paper, we ran out after one use as they left an almost entirely used roll and no replacement. There was a TON of us someone else’s very long hairs all over the floors, you could see little piles of hair swirling on the tiles. The carpet had gooey residue ground into it so we had to wear shoes in the room the entire time. The actual linens seemed clean, but the rest of the room was dirty and dusty. There was no security visible, no cameras, signs about theft and vandalism. It’s directly off the highway, but I would prefer to travel a little further into town for better accommodations or skip Madera all together if possible. We were very glad to only need this room for a quick sleep, as it was rather underwhelming experience, the property is dirty and run-down, and the check-in didn’t make us feel welcome.
