Matt and Kristi really add a personal touch to the experience! Not only was this historical location gorgeous and cozy, the location was breathtaking. The owners made sure that I had everything I needed to have a great experience in Bar Harbor, especially for this time of year. I will definitely be coming back!

We just returned from our second trip to Bar Harbor while staying at the Saltair Inn. We love it! Matt and Kristi are wonderful hosts, friendly, informative, accommodating and so nice! Breakfast is always delish and the cookies were a nice treat! We love the Harbor Suite Room - The views from the room are great, the in room fireplaces were perfect this fall! We love the seating room (with a view!), the attached outdoor deck area, the spacious bathroom with claw foot tub and heated floor - so many nice amenities! One of our favorites things when we’ve visited is to walk over (right from the Inn) and explore Bar Island during low tide. It’s a short walk from the Inn and you can do a short exploration to the “summit” or take a longer trek and wander the perimeter of the island which we did this time…just be sure to make it back before the tide comes in! Saltair Inn is also conveniently located near the town center - probably under 5 min walk. Very easy to get to shopping and restaurants. It’s a short ride from the Inn to Acadia National Park - so much to see! Many trails and hikes, but also many views you can easily get to with convenient parking and vista areas. We have planned our visits early before the summer season and late post summer so some local restaurants and places were already closed for the season. However we did still find plenty of shops and restaurants to enjoy though! I rave about our trip to Saltair Inn and Bar Harbor for months after we return! We are already discussing when to visit again…highly recommend! Thank you Matt & Kristi

The ease, comfort and accommodating vibe at Saltair Inn made our first trip to Bar Harbor so welcoming and informative that we can’t wait to return. Our innkeepers, Kristi & Matt, were friendly and amazing hosts. Our room was relaxing and had all the amenities we needed. The food and service each morning was exceptional. Their 18 years as hosts, give them exceptional knowledge about restaurants and hiking trails. Those types of tips are invaluable to first timers, but by the number of repeat guests we encountered, we know we found a special place!

The Saltair Inn was a dream! From the welcoming atmosphere, to all the amenities you could need, to the perfect view made this place the best place to be in Bar Harbor! Very close to Acadia and in walking distance to everything in Bar Harbor! Highly recommend to anyone and everyone!

In mid-March we decided to chase winter to Mount Desert Island and reserved five nights at The Saltair Inn. It was like coming home. There is something about a grand oceanside family home built in 1887 that puts you at ease from the first moment you walk through the door. Everything about the inn, sitting and dining areas, decks and porches, says welcome. Before we found our room, we found the view down the lawn to Bar Island and the water. Located in easy walking distance to Bar Harbor shopping and restaurants, the Inn is nestled among good neighbors, large rambling seaside homes that speak of quieter times, pleasant gatherings and history. Our room was a joy, the Acadia Suite, a sitting room with windows to the water, a large bedroom and a large welcoming bath with clawfoot tub and walk in shower. Attention to detail was everywhere, unique, lovely and special. A shared gas fireplace between the bedroom and sitting room warmed and brightened our mornings at the push of a button, another fireplace in the bathroom, just added special to our stay. Our room opened to a shared deck look out. We began our days with pleasant greetings, shared stories, answers to any question and a wonderful breakfast beautifully prepared and served by our hosts Matt and Kristi. Every day was different, every meal was special, starting our days with, juice, fruit and main courses that included: eggs Benedict, blueberry stuffed French toast, blueberry pancakes and eggs frittatas. There are lovely common spaces, comfortable couches, dining spaces and porch lookouts. Every afternoon special treats could be found on the dining room sideboard for nibbling. We spent most of our days out and about on the island, but also took advantage of our comfortable room for afternoon naps and morning views to the sea. Staying at the Saltair Inn felt like the beginning of a friendship, it felt like coming home.

The SaltAir Inn is, in a word; wonderful. From the moment we arrived and saw the view from the backyard, we knew we'd chosen the right place. The ambiance is that of a well-preserved historic mansion, with beautiful common areas including a dining room, enclosed porch and outdoor decks. The rooms are simultaneously nostalgic and up-to-date. Matt and Kristi are the perfect hosts - helpful when asked for help, but happy to leave you to yourselves when that's appropriate. Kristi's breakfasts were superb, with substitutions cheerfully made when requested. The location is I think, the best in Bar Harbor. The lawn features two pairs of Adorondack Chairs for quiet afternoons and beautiful sunsets. The sandbar that gives Bar Harbor its name is a short walk from the seawall at low tide. The commercial district is a short walk away, but far enough away that it doesn't intrude on the peace and quiet of Down East Maine. All I can add after reading the (very) few negative reviews, is that I think there are people who enjoy large bustling hotels, and people who want peace and serenity. My wife and I are in the latter group; I think the ones who left negative reviews are in the former. If you want a large bustling hotel there are plenty of those in Bar Harbor. For us; no thanks, we'll take the SaltAir. The only thing I'll mention so that readers don't think we are totally in the tank, is this. Yes, the negative reviewers are correct that the wifi (in the bedrooms only) is not superfast - blame it on thick old walls. But, go downstairs to the beautiful common areas and it's fine. Besides, who wants to spend time in Bar Harbor staring at a laptop in your room, when Acadia National Park and all the rest beckons? Thanks again, Matt and Kristi, for your hospitality and for doing your best to accomodate our changed plans beyond our control. We had a wonderful first visit to the SaltAir but it most assuredly will not be our last -

Wonderful experience! The inn is beautiful. Food was excellent. Matt and Kristi were helpful with answering any questions . One and a half block walk to downtown Bar Harbor and 15 minute drive to Acadia National Park. Perfect for us! Thanks Matt and Kristi.

The Saltair Inn was the nicest B&Bs we’ve stayed at! The suite was water front with a balcony. The bathroom included a gas fireplace, claw tub and glass enclosed shower! A second “see through” gas fireplace separated the bed room from sitting room, a nice touch for the morning chill. The included breakfasts were amazing, as well as freshly made cookies and coffee available , provided by friendly and knowledgeable Inn Keepers! The location is perfect, near the sandbar and very walkable to the town. The beauty of this mansion and grounds exceed the website photos, we couldn’t have imagined a nicer vacation!

Comfortable accommodations in a historic property with breathtaking views of the water and a friendly, laid back atmosphere. The breakfast was fantastic and the owners and staff were as well. Easy walk to shops and restaurants. Looking forward to a return visit!
