The Sun Inn at Hook Norton

Banbury
Set in the beautiful village of Hook Norton just 6 miles from Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddley Squat farm shop is The Sun Inn. The quintessential English pub. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very presentable and at £99 per night inc breakfast with an Oxford postcode I was impressed.! The refreshments in the room are superb, oat bars, croissants, muffins, cereals, cartons of juice, fresh milk, fruit, bottled water, coffee….. you’re lucky to get 2 biscuits in a pack at most places. Dump the bags, and down for some pre dinner drinks, a vast array of wines, spirits, mainstream beers and ciders and the local ipa, bitter etc. After sampling the beers and Sauvignon Blanc it was dinner, a great selection on the menu, and from the meals we picked all were fantastically cooked and presented. A few more after dinner drinks and its ready for bed. I did notice in the bathroom 3 packs of ear plugs, initially I thought it was for ladies who didn’t want to find themselves woken up by their husbands snoring…. Unfortunately the pub stays open later than usual and you can hear the joviality quite easily, not a major problem, I soon got back off……. Time to get up for breakfast, ouch ! Our mattress really could do with replacing! Its like sleeping on a bag of broken spanners, the shower is “interesting” oh and please have a word with the cleaner, I really shouldn’t be expected to clean dried poop from the pan left by the previous occupants!! Down we go to chose from the 7 or so options the English breakfast which is equally as delightful as the evening food, so can’t fault the food and service. Overall I’m very impressed with the sun inn. I’d definitely go back, and the only 2 criticisms are, the mattress and the poop.

This hotel is a bad joke. We are Premier Inn fans and they are our preferred brand in the UK. We have stayed at the Premier Inn M40 many times but thought we would try the new hotel and the Plus rooms. What a mistake. Finding the hotel from the car park could be a challenge for anyone not familiar with the layour, there are no signs. More details need to be provided on the confirmation letter. The hotel information says that car parking is £1 on a Sunday and Bank Holiday. We were charged£2.70 on Sunday and £3.90 on Bank Holiday Monday. We arrived at about 16.00 and were told we would have to wait for our room to be ready. When we got the room there was only one set of towels and the pillows needed pillow cases. The room was very nicely furnished and the bed comfortable but you now have to specifically ask if you want your room serviced and tea and coffee replaced etc. Breakfast was a disaster. On the first day queues were long in some areas, a domestic 2 slice toaster was woefully inadequate and only one coffee machine is not sufficient. There was no fruit salad on one day and no Yoghurts on another. On the third morning we were told there would not be any cooked breakfast because of equipment failure. Given that the hotel was nearly empty and there were very few staff, I cannot help but feel they were saving money by not offering cooked breakfast. This is one Premier Inn to avoid

A overall great night away in Banbury. Hotel staff were 5* and the breakfast was good. The only complaint was I would of rather spent a few more pounds a night for a more modern room. Although spotless the bathroom has rust by the taps. Tiles were dated as were fittings and bedroom decor was tired and not cosy. This was a middle spec room not a basic and would of expected better. However staff and food made up for some of it.

Stayed a couple of nights here, bed and breakfast without breakfast. Note that it says free breakfast on the TA main page. Breakfast wasn't available on the first morning anyway, staff issue I believe. Nice enough place, we were told the heating comes on at 5 or 5.30 I can't remember but we said we were okay but when we sat in the lounge later I wished we'd asked for it to be on, I couldn't see a heating appliance or thermostat. Free car parking at the back and handy for the centre of Banbury.

It's really great! The view is very very good! ! The sunset is beautiful! The night view is more beautiful. Room service club sandwiches are very delicious. The meat sauce noodles are awful and too dry

It was too late to leave, so I checked into a hotel nearby and stayed. I arrived late and left early the next morning. I don’t know what the nearby scenery was like, but the hotel was nice. An unexpected surprise. The fish and chips were better than those eaten in London.

Wonderful staff, very attentive and proactive. Our parents stayed there as well and we all had a great night sleep. We specially liked the taxi booking system they had in which you push a button in reception and they tell you the taxi number and at what time is is going to arrive. They could include the opening hours in their menu as we didn’t know at what time they closed. There is no phone in your room so you have to go downstairs to order the food for it to be delivered to your room (and presumably pay there as well) The kiosk check-in wasn’t working so we had to wait for a person to arrive. The drop your card system for checkouts is great!
