We stayed in a ground floor apartment ( not the hotel ) at Isla Canela golf resort for 2 weeks in April. The apartment had 2 bedrooms,2 bath/shower rooms, kitchen, large lounge/dining room. Plenty of outside space front and back. The 2 golf courses attached to the resort are fabulous and well maintained.Hotel restaurant has a new chef so the food is very good, plentiful and tasty. The staff in all areas were excellent, very friendly and efficient. The large swimming pool within the apartment complex is only open July and August due to the requirement of a lifeguard which the residents have to pay for. The small hotel pool is open though. You definitely need a car to get around as the apartments are nearly a mile away from the hotel and clubhouse and to be able to explore the surrounding areas. Book your car from the airport-do not use the local company- we were ripped off to the tune of 650€ for 12 days car hire of a 6 year old Citrően C3! Great supermarket El Jamõn 50 meters from apartment is very handy. They are currently fitting out a cafe/snack bar the Tipsy Tee which should be opening soon. Ayamonte town is well worth a visit, plenty of shops, cafes etc. it’s a 1.5mile walk into town. Couple of things worth noting when you are self-catering particularly in the kitchen. I presume they are missing as people take them home as souvenirs…. Wire rack for the oven,Egg cups,Potato peeler,Can opener,Cheese Grater,Whisk,Oven glove,Clothes pegs,Garlic press,Simple orange/lemon juicer. Rooms only serviced every 2 weeks so we had to ask for clean towels. Overall our stay was great and we will return.

Visited here with a group of friends for a weekend golf break in September. Firstly, the hotel. Very good; clean, comfortable with professional and friendly staff. My room was a large double, well equipped with a spacious bathroom. Our accommodation was on a B+B basis so only experienced breakfast in the restaurant. Plenty of options for continental breakfast which was fine but the hot offerings were pretty poor and could do with better presentation. Secondly, the golf. We played the "Old" and "Links" courses. The Old course surrounds the hotel and was very enjoyable to play. Tees, fairways and greens were all in good condition and well looked after. All the holes offer varied challenges and the mix of rough, trees, bunkers and water also allowed plenty of leeway for the higher handicappers to negotiate. The Links course is about 20 minutes drive away and the hotel can arrange minibus transfer. This course, as the name suggests, lies right on the edge of the river separating Spain and Portugal. Although in generally good condition, several areas of fairway and green approaches were a bit bare and in need of attention. Greens were true, some very quick, the others in the more sheltered areas, a bit slower. A persistent strong breeze off the river also makes it a different test across the whole round. In all, a couple of good courses which will appeal to golfers of varied abilities.

We booked for a relaxing night away and the hotel room was large, very clean and comfortable and with a fantastic shower. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and made us feel very welcome. Nice swimming pool and outside area, but oh dear, the restaurant service was an utter disaster. The long long wait for service was explained as being caused by the kitchen only having one member of staff on duty as Mondays are usually quiet 🤫. When it arrived, the food was good quality but as a dinner experience it failed badly. The waiting staff were in a difficult position but remained polite throughout. That apart, we would stay again but not dine. As others have said, the breakfast offering was very good.

12 golfers ,some had been before. PROs. Rooms large and well equipped, everything you would need and expect. All communal areas immaculate and room cleaners do a superb job. Staff very helpful although the breakfast staff could maybe manage a smile , it goes a long way. Alex in the outside bar/ restaurant was extremely helpful, despite being rushed off her feet in the afternoons. Golf course in good condition and also handy in relation to the hotel. Course was well marshalled with 18 holes taking around the four mark - excellent.Breakfast was good with the usual hot and cold options. CONS. Do not stay half board. Evening meal extremely disappointing. Gave it two nights to give it a chance but food was average at best. House wine was changed as it had “ ran out” on both nights- very strange. Ate in Ayamonte for the other five nights despite paying for half board accommodation. Some big drinkers in our party , but again on numerous occasions the bar “ran out” of spiced rum and Baileys - unforgivable in a hotel bar.The hot breakfast did not go down well with our group with the sausage and bacon described as below average.
