Booked this hotel very last minute as there was very limited availability left on the Island. We paid @ $1550 for three nights in a Premium Room with outside Terrace The room itself was ok. Starting to get a bit tatty with the curtain valance falling off and the outside terrace could have done with a clean to get the bird droppings off the chaise beds Bathroom spacious and lovely walk in shower with Shampoo, Body Wash & Conditioner provided. Towels changed every day which was nice and bathroom seemed spotless & clean. Only issue was that after second day we ran out of body wash and when we enquired at reception for a top up they didn’t have any. At over $500 a night fir what us billed as a 3 star hotel and in my humble opinion vastly overpriced the body wash should have been topped up daily! Overall overpriced for a 3 Star hotel even if it was a “premium” room (you can stay at the Pendry in San Diego for same price!) and the attention to detail on making sure rooms are supplied with toiletries leaves a lit to be desired.

The Island Co did a wonderful job renovating this hundred + year old iconic hotel. The interior design is beautiful and keeps to the Catalina Island vibe that I love so much. Our room was small, which is to be expected on the island, but the smart use of furniture for storage and the layout of the bathroom actually made it feel not so small. This was the first leg of our trip so we had way more luggage than the average visitor, yet we were able to put our bags out of the way! There’s even bathroom storage, which for some reason many hotels don’t provide. They make up for the small rooms with plenty of lounging area in the lobby. There are conversation groupings of comfy furniture and even larger tables for playing games or dining. The room was comfortable, clean and had a coastal decor. One of the amenities I appreciated most was the AC…something that most hotels and rental homes don’t have in Catalina. With the beach just steps away, the complimentary beach towels are a very nice touch. It also makes it easy to reserve your space at the beach in the morning before grabbing breakfast. We had our own beach chairs & floating tubes for the ocean (and there was even room to store this in our room!), but you can also rent them at the pier, as well as umbrellas. The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but they do have a coffee/ breakfast spot that offers delicious breakfast burritos and sandwiches. Across from the hotel is the best pizza in Avalon, the original Antonio’s. And it’s a short walk to most of the other restaurants as well.

This was our first time here and stayed on the recommendation of someone else. Our normal place to stay has been sold and is closed. The hotel is large, clean and has some really interesting woodwork as it is over 100 years old. Wainscoting in the halls, stairs, lobby etc. The stairway is wide with wood handrails. However, on our way down the stairs right at the lobby, it is dark and my husband missed the last step and luckily he caught himself before falling. The person on duty asked if he was okay, which he was. However, the next time we went to the room, they had put a bright orange rug in front of the stairs. It was easier to see. We were on the second floor and there is no elevator unless they are hiding it. The rooms on their website look beautiful. But that is not what we got. Our room was a good size, not too small. Queen bed, beat up dresser, newer TV and Dish cable, portable air conditioning, microwave, fridge, small table with two chairs, large closet, tub with shower and more. BUT there was hardly any decorating done to the room. It has wainscoting all around and nice crown moulding, but they forgot the personal touch. There were two or three pictures but that was it. The window coverings were wood blinds and only one of them worked because of the floor air-conditioning that had a large vent running to the window. The window obviously was always partially open. They only good thing is that we looked towards the back of the hotel. There no lights or noise to bother us. Had the room had some personal touches and get rid of the that air conditioning unit, we would think differently about the hotel. In addition, they are replacing the wood siding on the hotel and our room had a view of scaffolding. We come ofter to Avalon and will have to think hard if we want to try this place again.
