Comfort Inn Ballston

Arlington|1.12km from downtown
Overall this was a lovely hotel and somewhere I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Free parking is a plus in this area, which is definitely not suburban-feeling although it's not in DC proper either. The hotel is a somewhat unique design, on a corner and wrapped around several sides of an above-ground lot and a single level of underground parking, both accessible for guests. Rooms were fresh and clean and well furnished. All the staff I interacted with were pleasant. I stayed for six nights and was quite comfortable. I did request a change of sheets for one bed midweek which never did happen despite the assurances of the front desk that it would, and our keys stopped working at two different occasions during the stay and had to be reissued -- based on what we saw from other guests, the key thing seemed fairly common. Breakfast was high quality and plentiful -- toast, bagels, cream cheese, peanut butter, rotating hot foods (usually sausage and egg/cheese omelettes or an egg patty), two waffle irons w/ normal and strawberry batter, oatmeal, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, various kinds of cereal + milk, doughnuts/pastries, and more. It was available right at the scheduled start time of 6:30am. Seemed to be fully restored to pre-COVID levels. The hotel has an hourly shuttle that runs to the Ballston-MU Metro station, which is otherwise an easy half-mile walk. The neighborhood is walkable and has many restaurants and bars that are just a few minutes from the hotel on foot. In a car, it's about 15 minutes from the hotel to the White House area. DC hotels tend expensive, and this seemed like a good deal for a solid stay in an accessible location. The few annoyances were minor and the benefits of this location were significant. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good price for a DC-area stay.

Sonesta Select Arlington Rosslyn

Arlington|3.09km from downtown
I went to Arlington, VA recently to participate in Wreaths Across America. I had reserved a room at the Sonesta Select Arlington Rosslyn. I got there on Friday afternoon, checked in and went to the cemetery to spend the rest of the day. When I got back that evening, my sister joined me. We ordered in and had a quiet night in the room. We were up early and checked out by 6:30am so we could get over to the cemetery. We had a great day and a wonderful experience with the Sonesta Select. Imagine my surprise when I looked at my credit card statement on December 31st and there was a new charge for the Sonesta Select in the amount of $250. I immediately went to the Sonesta Select website and inquired what the additional charge was for. I sent a screen shot of my statement showing both charges. (The original room charge on the 18th and the one on the 31st.) I knew with it being New Years Eve, I would not hear back for several days. Imagine my surprise when I received an email yesterday saying the $250 charge was for the room cleaning because we had “trashed the room”!! Now Tim always makes fun of me when we travel because I always make the bed before we leave. I fold the used towels/washcloths and place them on the edge of the tub. True to form, I did just that. I made both beds, tidied the bathroom, emptied the trash cans into the bag that the food we ordered had come in for dinner the night before and even placed the remote back on the TV. I inspected the room before we left to make sure we hadn’t forgotten anything, turned off the lights and shut the door, making sure it locked behind me. I have now sent 3 emails back requesting pictures of the “trashed room” because you know in this day and age, someone took pictures. No response. I have not called them because I don’t trust myself to not get angry or rude with them. I also want a papertrail. I am not sure how to handle this because this is a case of “he said/ she said”. It’s not that $250 is going to break me but I feel totally violated and it’s very shady business. I had planned to use them again next year and was even planning a family vacation there for several days, reserving several rooms…. NOT NOW!! It would crack me up if it weren’t so ridiculous. We are 2 older ladies (55 & 56), hardly party animals. I was so exhausted from all the walking I had done that day and my sister was tired from working all day and then traveling to the hotel, we were both in bed by 8:30pm. So why am I telling you this, because BEWARE!! Obviously your credit card can be charged for anything after you check out. It’s sad that no one will show me any “proof” that I damaged the room and can charge you for anything they dream up. I feel like the next time I stay in a hotel, I am going to have to ask for someone working the desk to come to my room and do an inspection before I leave and give me something in writing that says the room is acceptable.

Hilton Arlington

Arlington|0.19km from Ballston Common Mall
A hidden pleasure of a hotel. I would probably not have considered this location for staying in DC and visiting the sights, but as I had meetings close by I chose to stay here. I was very pleasantly surprised by what I got, and might even stay here for a holiday trip with the family. I had an 8th-floor room which was immaculate and spacious. As was the hotel itself. The bed was super-comfortable and I slept like a log all week. The window leaked noticeably, but the AC kept the room temperature perfect. The breakfast buffet was surprisingly good. Fresh fruit and berries with yoghurt, cooked items, juices and coffee. All the staff members were friendly and helpful, even to a somewhat jet-lagged and a little bit unsocial foreigner. I really felt at home. The hotel is located on top of the escalators to the Ballston metro station and has indoor walkways connecting it to a nearby mall (with a Macy’s and several fast food options although I didn’t try those). Riding the metro to DC was surprisingly easy and fast too: the service (orange and silver lines) is frequent and it only took 20 minutes or so to get into the city from your room. The ticket machines took a little figuring out the first time but were really simple to use in an 80s way in the end. I took an Uber to get here from the Reagan airport, but rode the metro back out to the airport. The metro too was simple with easy access from the street level and one switch between the orange and blue lines at Rosslyn. I had a great experience, and would definitely stay here again. For business or for pleasure.

Sheraton Pentagon City

I recently hosted a conference and board meeting at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel. I stayed twice- once in September to do a site visit and had a particularly friendly welcome from Gelila who helped me out multiple times and made me feel welcome and cared for. She really made my experience memorable. Working with Jada and Megan to book the event was really easy, friendly and efficient. When I came back to host my event I was really welcomed by the staff. Kendra always made sure I had what I needed to make sure my event ran smoothly and kept track of many different needs our group had. She was very responsive and helpful. Negasi, Rosario, Helen and Amir took care of us with our catering and were such authentic and caring people. They all made us feel like family. Negasi particularly noticed what we needed and made strides to change the plan to accommodate for our particular event. He is a wonderful person. Other front desk helpers, like Taylor, also really enhanced the experience. Everybody really actedl like a human being and I really appreciate it. I am so grateful each time I went down and saw Gelila at the desk because I felt like I could count on her generosity and friendly warmth! Thank you all for the care and consideration during our event! Next time will definitely book here.

The room is very spacious and the decoration is relatively new. There is a living room and a bedroom. The mini bar with a sink is very convenient. The bathroom is also very spacious. There are everything you need for breakfast. It is hot in the morning, and there are free drinks and biscuits in the afternoon. It is also very close to whole foods, about ten minutes walk from the subway, and the free shuttle is very good

The hotel is good, with nice location, and nice service. The only problem we met was the sink. All water coming from the sink hose is hot water, there was no cold water.
