We have just returned from a week at Portavesco, and found this hotel to be of a very poor standard. The rooms are “furnished “with basic furniture. We had no doors on our wardrobe and the bedding was old and worn. The food served was really poor, and at times inedible (mould found and shown to staff). We ended up eating out even though we had booked/paid for half board. The management were dismissive of our concerns. I would not advise anyone to stay here.

We asked for 2 adjoining , quiet rooms. My friend and I had 314 which had a balcony and a well equipped bathroom with a super Jacuzzi bath and good shower over. Our friends in 312 had a big walk in shower. We found the mattresses solid, duvet and pillows thin and manmade. Not what we were used to in Austrian hotels. The rooms were hot so we turned off the radiators. Towels were plentiful and of good quality. Yellow towels for the pool. Thin cotton dressing gowns available from reception. Food was very good, breakfast had a huge buffet choice, lots of carbs, toast machine, yoghurt, fresh and tinned fruits, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs. The bacon was disappointing. The waiter brought hot water for tea or coffee. Dinner buffet was super, followed by a 3 choice starter, 3 course main, beautiful home made ice cream, fresh fruit salad or a pudding. Our waiter looked after us perfectly. Choices made the day before . The pool is on the ground floor, it has a swim jet , was pretty chilly, with a warm shower. Shame that there are no hooks for towels or dressing gowns. Didn't open until 1400. The spa area is odd, gloomy I didn't use it. The girls in the bar were lovely, nice to sit after skiing and relax with a drink . The reception staff were efficient and helpful. The boot room is a rabbit warren , a €20 refundable deposit is needed for the key. It's a down hill then up hill, 10 minute walk, to the the Burz lift. At the end of the day it's possible to ski to within a 5 minute down hill walk of the boot room steps. We enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

Travelled with Inghams for Christmas week. On arrival we were checked in by a rather uninterested gentleman who took our names and rather snootily said ‘your with Ingham’s’! He had to be prompted to provide us with a ski locker key for a 20 euros deposit. It was as much as he could do to tell us where the lifts were located. Most of the other reception staff we dealt with during the week were more engaging and helpful. Our room was on the 3rd floor and was well appointed, clean, warm, comfortable and fairly quiet. Our friends were on the 2nd floor and had real problems with music noise late at night from the public bar and people standing outside the bar being very loud. They managed to get their room changed to the 3rd floor after a couple of bad, noisy nights. Now for food which is my main beef ( no pun intended): My wife is dairy intolerant which Inghams had been advised of and they had acknowledged it. However we are unsure if Inghams had made the hotel aware or not. Breakfast is a buffet affair with a good selection of cold and a limited selection of warm foods, scrambled eggs and thin bacon. Luke warm water supplied for tea and a number of different, very diluted, fruit juices from 2 machines. My wife was given a lactose free yoghurt 3 of the 7 days we were there. Evening meals were, to be brutally honest, disorganised and very poor. You have to select your next evening meals from a very limited menu. This rarely had anything remotely dairy free on it, which became a bit of a guessing game. The salad/starter buffet was well stocked but nothing was labelled. It was impossible to identify if some of the dishes, quite often breadcrumbed, had cheese/dairy in them. One of our friends is vegetarian and the same lack of choice and information on content applied. He was given a vegetable lasagne one evening that had pieces of ham in it! The Christmas evening ‘event’ was shambolic. There were not enough waiting staff and the maitre d was running around like a headless chicken. It took an hour to be served our second course. The ‘main’ event was a large joint of pork which the chefs carved in the restaurant. It was not cooked properly and what should have been crackling was soft and fatty. The whole meal took over 3 hours to complete. Things did improve slightly on later evenings and the waiting staff were, in the main, very friendly and competent. I think they were generally frustrated by the random offerings from the kitchen. It was rare for the 5 of us to get our meals presented closely together. The hotel has its own bar but it was not open any of the time we were there during the week. We had to use the public bar, which is attached to the hotel and we guessed owned and run by them as you could put drinks on your room bill from there. Prices were very fair, 6 euros for a large beer and the same for an Aperol Spritz. My wife used the wellness facility most days and found the sauna very good, she said the pool was very cold. Arabba

Great hotel in a small skiing resort close to the slopes, with free parking and the possibility to store skiing gear for a fee. Super friendly staff, slightly outdated rooms and breakfast was a bit bland and felt like old bread. Had an early departure and was given a takeaway breakfast bag as breakfast was not yet opened, wich was much appreciated.

This is an extremely comfortable hotel with an excellent restaurant and very friendly staff. There is also a spa and ample lounge areas. The hotel is located about 10 minutes from the nearest chairlift and you can ski almost back to the hotel.

The overall service and hospitality during our stay was first class and excellent. The hotel staff particularly at Breakfast and evening Dinner were exceptional and extremely attentive, polite and genuinely warm which made our ski holiday so brilliant. The breakfast was fresh, plentiful and great coffee and warm milk every morning. Our room with large shower room was clean and kept tidy and made up every day. It was a big room with spacious beds and plenty of hanging space to dry our damp ski jackets after every day too. The food quality at dinner in the evening was fresh and plentiful. And more than enough to eat and presented exceptionally every evening, making sure there was plenty to nourish us after each ski day. We would recommend this Hotel right in the centre of Arabba with easy walking distance two or three minutes to the Burz chairlift delivering us to the greater expanse and connection to the Dolomiti Superski area and the Sella Ronda/Marmolada range. Thank you/Grazie for making our ski holiday so very welcoming/accogliente. Grazie mille.

I last visited the Porto Vescovo about 22 yrs ago. I’ve just returned from a fabulous week with my young family. The hotel is well located, with lovely clean rooms and excellent facilities. The staff work incredibly hard and are friendly and helpful with the children. They accommodated my husbands coeliac disease, the food was plentiful, local and tasty.

This was our second holiday in the Hotel Portavescovo, and it was again excellent. The hotel is well situated close to the Burz chairlift which gives access to all the surrounding skiing. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the service is superb - I can't praise them enough. We wished to celebrate Burns' Night and they coped flawlessly with the provision of a Burns Supper. The food is always excellent, especially the vast range of breakfast items and the starter buffet at dinner, and on several evenings I opted out of the first hot course to avoid over-eating. The only thing I could wish for would be proper fresh orange juice at breakfast. There's ample comfortable lounge seating for relaxing on, the glühwein is good, and the price of a glass or a carafe of house wine is very reasonable indeed. The bedrooms are fine, though I wish mine had had some drawers rather than just cubbyholes to keep underwear and small items tidy, and I would have preferred to have a bath rather than just a shower. There's always plenty of hot water. We also enjoyed using the swimming pool, sauna and steam room.
