Recently we’ve had whole-house renovation, and I have long work-days via computer, so I needed a place to stay locally. If you are comparing Residence Inn to the Hilton Garden Inn, I’ve stayed at both, and Residence Inn is much better! Why? First of all; the staff. Hugh at the front desk listened empathetically that I needed a quiet place to work during the day, and that I’d be staying on a day to day basis. He got me just the right room to do that! The room is much bigger than next door, and they have a kitchenette; PERFECT! The gym is bigger, and the staff is much nicer than the Hilton, not to mention sharper of mind, in my view. For me, the star of my whole experience was when I was up for hours in the middle of the night with stress-induced insomnia, and Ralph brought me up a comforter when, frankly, I knew it presented a challenge for him to do so. Negatives? Hilton has the thermostats set on energy savings, so every 15 minutes I needed to get up from my work and wave my arms so the sensor would know I was in the room to start the heating cycle again. That was a giant pain in the neck. I did call a technician the first day, and even explained how to adjust the setting, but he refused to touch it, and banged around inside the heating unit instead. Thereafter, he told me condescendingly that he felt a draft and I must have had the window open. (Not a pleasant fellow) And by the way, when the temperature on the wall said it was 70 degrees, it was really 65. Much of the time I had it set to 76, the front plate said 70, but my travel clock with temp read 65 or 66 unless I was very active in the room; then all was fine. Often I had to wear my coat while I was working because I was in meetings and sometimes I could not get up to wave my arms at the motion sensor. THANKS HILTON. 🙄 Housekeeping bangs the doors really loudly when cleaning - I could have done without that. And every day they knocked on my door around 10 even though I had the “Do Not Disturb” sign out. I was staying day-to-day so they did have down that I was checking out, but still, it was nothing like 11am or 12pm that they were knocking. Not appreciated. Breakfast: I stuck with the oatmeal and fresh fruit. I think part of why they are choosing the food they are is the pandemic. The workers there in the morning are SO polite and helpful and always have a smile for everyone. They are really on top of their job. I really appreciated their positive attitude and dilligence daily. Lastly - a big hats off to Hugh and Ralph. They really go above and beyond in taking a personal interest in the happiness and comfort of the guests. They take it personally; that is easy to see. THANK YOU, BOTH OF YOU! That sort of courtesy and empathy is hard to find. We are sending friends and clients to Residence Inn for sure.
