Extremely distressing experience – I felt unsafe and completely unsupported During my stay at Generator Amsterdam, my Battle Vest was stolen from my bed while I was asleep in a shared dormitory. This was an extremely valuable and deeply personal item: it cost around €300 to create, took me eight years of collecting patches and pins from festivals, and was a meaningful gift from my mother. I immediately reported the theft to reception, but I did not feel that the situation was taken seriously. I was told that thefts in shared rooms happen, and when I asked to see the CCTV, I was told that only the police could access it. The situation became even more distressing afterwards. I felt uncomfortable and unsafe in the dormitory, and I experienced behaviour from other guests that made the situation extremely difficult. When I later returned to reception to address the matter, I was not given the support or management intervention I was asking for. I eventually left the hostel feeling shaken, humiliated, angry and completely helpless. What should have been a normal trip turned into an experience that affected me emotionally for days. A shared dormitory does not mean that a guest should expect their belongings to disappear from their bed while they are sleeping, nor should reporting such an incident leave them feeling unsupported. I would strongly advise management to seriously review how theft reports, guest safety and vulnerable guests are handled. This experience has completely changed how I view this propert
