Mercure Almaty City Center Reviews

Stay here for a night. We abruptly changed the plan and had to book a hotel to stay for that night. Interestingly, booking via Trip was much cheaper than booking at the hotel reception.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The service was excellent, both at the front desk and during breakfast. Housekeeping was fantastic; they consistently replenished slippers and dental amenities. Since I was traveling alone, they provided two bottles of fresh water daily. A bathrobe was also included. Breakfast offered a good variety, and everything was delicious. They even had national sweets, which was a nice touch. I tried the spa and jacuzzi. Overall, it was okay, but the jacuzzi water was heavily chlorinated, leaving my hands very dry afterward. There was no hand cream in the room, which would have been a great addition. While the hotel isn't right in the city center, the location is still convenient. It's a 10-minute walk to the metro station, and Arbat Street, a popular pedestrian street, is nearby.

Upon arrival, our room was prepared with a “welcome gift” of fruit — unfortunately, it was already rotten. We informed reception, and their response was simply that it had been placed there the day before. As one of the more expensive hotels in the city, we expected a higher standard of service and a more professional response to a complaint. Due to this experience, we will consider alternative accommodation for our next stay.

It's hard to imagine that Mercure, which is considered a budget hotel in China, costs 1200 a night in Almaty. I arrived very late on the first night and found there were no toiletries like toothbrushes in the room. The next morning, I called housekeeping at 10 AM, but by 2 PM, my room still hadn't been cleaned. I had to call and urge them four or five more times before an older lady finally came. By then, my patience was completely worn out.

Breakfast included, location, and room condition were all great. I've stayed at several hotels in Almaty, but none offered such good value for money as this one. I plan to use it again on my next business trip.

The hotel is very clean and close to Arbat Street. It's much quieter here than in the noisy city center.

Excellent location, spacious rooms, inhouse fitness centre was useful as well the restaurant that's open through the night.

Very good business hotel in Almaty. Booked for a client and they gave positive feedback. Suitable for business trips or family travel. I would book here again when I visit Almaty in the future.

Mixed feelings. Great location and lovely staff! But we had a room where the TV wasn’t working. First night they told us they can only fix it the next day. Then the next day they said they can only do it the next day again. Plus this was after my multiple phone calls, it seemed that the maintenance team just ignored us. And the reception offered a 20% discount on room services as apologies for the long wait. In the end as they can’t do anything, I asked if we could change room. So we got a new room… with a half working tv… but with broken aircon… we called reception and was told they can control it from their end. Still not working. So we went out for dinner and asked them to check it out. When we returned, there were technicians in our room fixing the air conditioner. And we sat around outside for an hour before it was fixed. In the end, after hassling the whole day we finally had a working room at 9pm… All the staff were very polite and tried hard to resolve the issue. But I feel everything in a room should be working before guests check in. alternatively we did ask to change room again but not sure why that wasn’t considered but instead they want to keep us waiting around for another hour in the lobby.

When I booked, I specifically requested a high-floor room, but my request was ignored, and I was assigned a room on the 5th floor. Around 3 PM, when I checked in, I discovered there was no hot water in the room. I asked to switch rooms, but again, my request was disregarded. A male hotel staff member replied that the hotel was fully booked and they could only send a technician to fix it. After I insisted multiple times, a female staff member said she could move me to another room on the same floor, which I agreed to. However, while waiting in the lobby for the room change, I saw the housekeeping manager come down and argue with the front desk staff, glaring at me maliciously. In the end, no room change was made, and we had to wait for the hot water pipe repair to be completed, which wasted a lot of our time. It seems the hotel staff lack experience in handling guest requests.

The front desk staff were friendly, and the room was comfortable and clean. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. The location is just okay, but there's a hotpot restaurant right across the street. Even though the hotpot place isn't amazing in terms of food or service, it still hits the spot when you're craving it! Haha!

First time in Kazakhstan, and this hotel was recommended by Trip.com with a high rating. However, overall, it was quite mediocre. At 1000 RMB per night, the price is quite high. Compared to Accor hotels of the same caliber back home, the room was smaller and toiletries were scarce, so it wasn't great value for money. The staff's attitude was so-so; they weren't willing to help me change some small money, even though they clearly opened the cash drawer and showed me there was change inside ( ´◔ ‸◔') Humph.
