Hotel El Tucan Alajuela

Ok, not bad.
El Rodeo Estancia Boutique Hotel & Steakhouse
4.3/5100 Reviews
This place is 10 minutes from the airport and is gated, guarded with traditional clean rooms and a fantastic steakhouse! Highly recommend to stay if you'd like a place near the San Jose airport. We didn't use the pool, but the lobby had a pool table and foosball. The receptionist also booked an airport shuttle for us for the next morning. Our expectations were fairly low, but I was pleasantly surprised! The horse and saddle decor were very cool for native Montanans.
Courtyard San Jose Airport Alajuela

With friendly and helpful staff, this hotel is sweet, easy to get to, and shuttle every half hour for domestic and international terminals. The food was pretty good - though breakfast is expensive. It would be nice if you could order ala carte.
Fairfield by Marriott San Jose Airport Alajuela

If you’re arriving late at San Jose Airport and have an early flight in the morning, I would without a doubt stay here again. The complementary shuttle service that runs every 30min is so convenient and the location is excellent with a Walmart right across the street for your last minute necessities. The staff is super friendly, the bed is comfy and the rooms are clean. The shower pressure is quite low though but apart from that there’s nothing I can think of. Taking into account the time of the year the room cost more than I wanted to spend, but given the overall convenience and experience all in all it was worth it and I’m looking forward to staying here again when I fly out from San José.
Villa San Ignacio

I read summer great reviews of this place and it did not disappoint. There are small trails on the property. Stunt get excited, they are small but you are not next to another building! The pool is nice but not heated. If you are from the NE US, you are used to it. Or was refreshing especially after being in the sun for a bit. The hotel is nicely kept but more of a local style which I prefer more than the standard hotel room. The room is beautiful and the bed is comfy. You can't go wrong here. Many people I met do the same thing, spend the last night in Costa Rica before flying out. Very secure, not much near, but the best ends to your pura vida vacation.
Trapp Family Country Inn
4.4/563 Reviews
Trapp Family Country Inn was a great place to kick off our vacation in Costa Rica. I only wish we had had more time in our itinerary to really enjoy the place longer. It is a short taxi ride from the airport, and the property is behind a gate. We had a late arrival, but a staff member was waiting for us, arranged our breakfast order for the next morning, and showed us to our room. The room was clean, the shower was warm, and the balcony was lovely. The next morning we enjoyed a nice breakfast on the patio while watching the birds and butterflies. We were easily able to Uber to our next location in Alajuela. I just wish we had had the time to enjoy the pool because it looked great!
