Just returned from our 3rd stay @ Hotel Akumal Caribe ~ had a wonderful time. Loved our ground floor (deluxe kitchenette) room (406) just steps away from the pool & beach. Nothing better than waking up to the birds singing & enjoying a cup of coffee on our patio. You know your day is going to be a good one, when Juan (goundskeeper) greets you with a ”Hola, Buenos Dias” as he starts his day. But, then ALL the people employed @ this property are super friendly & make you feel like family each & everyday. Our room was cleaned by a very nice gentleman (forgot to get his name) always with a smile & a ”hope you are having a nice visit.” We had all our meals down by the Lolha ~ excellent food/drinks/service!! Big ups to Oscar, Willy, Rafael, Alberto, Jordy & the rest of the crew. Again, always service with a smile. Hotel Akumal Caribe & The Lolha are a perfect example of how a property/restaurant should be run & I'm sure other properties could learn a valuable lesson from them. El Dorado Seaside Suites is not a five star resort. This resort is not a stand alone resort. For everything you need you have to go the The Palms Seaside suites. When we were there last week there was one restaurant at the El Dorado and it was open from 12:30 to 5:30. All the restaurants and bars are on The Palms side of the resort. They do have shuttle service but you have to wait for these to arrive. There is also no place to even get yourself a coffee if you don’t want to use the coffee maker in the room. There is a Starbucks on the Palms side but you have to pay for their coffee. There is basically no beach at the El Dorado. The white sand beach is on the Palm side. There is a very small beach which is full of cabanas reserved for the exclusive members. These cabanas cut your view of the ocean from the suites at the El Dorado. Our room was beautiful and the AC worked like a charm. Not a lot of hot water in the shower but enough to get by. The pillows in the room were horrendous. We asked for better pillows and it took three phone calls and 8 hours to get three of the worst pillows I have ever seen. We had a lot of problems getting sufficient drinking water delivered to our room. They give you six small bottles of water in the room when you arrive and then It is very hit and miss on getting anymore. Room service was abysmal. We phoned them numerous times and water was never delivered. This was the only way you could get water. None of the bars had any bottled water. But if you wanted booze it was there like Flash Gordon. The room service being poor is a big deal in the El Dorado as there is nothing there except the one restaurant which is only open for a few hours in the afternoon. The food was not good. The buffet restaurant is an after thought and one of the worst buffet restaurants I have ever seen in the Caribbean. The other restaurants are passable but do NOT live up to the hype of gourmet delight. It was wonderful to get away after not being away for four years, but I will never go back to this resort. Nice Hotel at the beach. Not a good beach, a lot of rocks. Quit place. Youtube have to take a taxi from the Hotel, fixed price 500 pesos to tulum. Its very expencive. A bottle of water in the restaurant was 200 pesos, crazy!! Nice service. Varm drinks in the minibar, ask for ice bucket.

First, some context. The author of this review had over 25 years of senior management experience in the resort industry, has stayed at hundreds of hotels in over 80 countries, and visited Mexico more than a dozen times. You drive around eight miles on a dirt road to get to O Tulum. This would not be a negative for us if the delightful description and pictures were real. They aren’t. The photos on the web site grossly misrepresent the units and pretty much everything else. The reserved unit (pool view) was so unacceptable we forfeited a nonrefundable night rather than stay in it. We did stay one night by paying extra for a honeymoon suite, which was pleasant but not a rave. The pool view unit on the second floor was a tiny, dark concrete box whose main view was a fence. The “honeymoon suite” was bright, overlooking the pool with ocean behind it. But it was run down in many areas and certainly not luxurious or worth the price. The beach in front of the property is rocky and not really swimmable or even very walkable. My only explanation for the many high reviews is that the staff, who were in fact quite nice, coached guests to rave. You can, I hope, do better.

This is quickly becoming our favorite resort! We went in October (you can read my review from then on here as well) and again in March and have already planned our third visit for this fall! We opted for a third story ocean view room this time (we had a private corner pool suite last time). We loved listening to the waves every night from our room and waking up to the sunrise every morning. The room was very similar to the last one we had. Very modern, marble bathroom etc but this room had a jetted soaking tub. We requested building 67 so we could be close to the infinity pool and Helios restaurant. From the moment you arrive you are treated like family. Israel, the bellboy captain, is always prepared with a warm welcome and Kevin at the front desk is always a wonderful familiar face to see! Alberto, Sergio and Romeo are amazing golf cart drivers! They always get you where you need to go with a smile and a warm greeting! They have become our friends and we look forward to seeing them again soon! All of the butlers are excellent as well. Rafael and Mariana took great care of us! If there is anything at all you need, don’t hesitate to ask your butler. The food and drinks here are excellent. There are top shelf options included such as crown royal, captain Morgan, grey goose etc. David, Jonathan and Mayra made sure our cups were never empty :) Daniel at La Jarra (trs only beach bar) was a treat! We enjoyed hanging out there with him. He works very hard keeping all the trs guests happy! Alfredo at La Terraza (the “quiet” pool) made us some special custom drinks that were amazing! We ate breakfast every day at Helios (capricho wasn’t open) and often times lunch as well. My husband even started making up breakfast sandwiches for himself lol and they made them for him every day! Martha and Wendy made breakfasts exceptional! They even brought us a sweet goodbye dessert plate :) Ivonne is an amazing hostess and has become someone that we feel is our friend and we look forward to seeing her again soon! Our favorite dinner spots are Tentazione and La Boheme. We like sitting in the special booth there! We tried Sumptuori (hibachi) this trip and enjoyed it as well. The evening entertainment here is the BEST that we’ve encountered since Covid restrictions affected the resorts. The chic show is running on a smaller scale and is in the terrace bar, full moon. The burlesque show is fabulous and should not be missed! We also enjoyed ****** night! Be prepared to make new friends here on a nightly basis! It’s so much fun! Make sure to check out Las Rocas, the salt water pool. Bring your snorkel gear and water shoes! We also enjoyed a round of putput golf at the activities center!
